Damn the guy is still funny as hell. He has a new stand up show on Comedy Central. If you enjoyed him in the past you will love it… if you don’t know him, this is a great show to watch. It’s like seeing the Beatles put on a new show today. It was all new, and it was all great. I’m sure it will be re-shown.
Was he a cranky old bastard, or more mellow, like in “Himself?”
Bill Cosby is amazing. I almost had the opportunity to see him live once, but I couldn’t get my hands on a ticket.
If you’ve ever seen him on Jimmy Fallon, trolling the hell out of the Roots, his brilliance is 100% intact.
I heard he was laying on the floor last time, but I missed it. hey Hey HEY
Most comics are in awe of this guy. He can walk out onto a stage cold and do an hour of new material.
If you listen to comics of a certain age all talk about listening to the albums of Carlin, Pryor and Cosby. They shaped modern comedy.
Good to hear. He was undoubtedly a master back in the day, but I was afraid he had peaked with “Himself.”
The fact that Cosby was able to become “Bill Cosby” in the era that he did, in itself is amazing. The brilliance of his humor doubles it. The fact that he can be brilliantly hilarious without dipping into the “black people do this, white people do that” fount is just the cherry on top of the icing on top of the world’s supply of ice cream that is Bill Cosby.
Not ice cream—JELL-O.
Very funny. He still has it. It makes me regret he wasn’t doing these kind of specials over the last thirty years.
What’s the show? It’s him doing standup or hosting standup?
Wait, now I’m confused. We bought tickets almost a year ago for his live show at NJPAC in March called ‘Far from Finished’. It’s on Comedy Central? It’s part of a series?
I don’t think I’ve ever heard a routine of his that used a curse word stronger than “asshole”, and that was when he was talking about cocaine use.
I got the impression that, by “show,” the OP meant a special rather than a series. It may well be a recording of the show you saw live; Comedy Central does produce and run those stand-up “concert” shows.
Well, 30 years *should *be enough to come up with an hour of original comedic material, yeah
It is a special. 90 minutes of his current tour routine. He is actually sitting down most of the time but I think it still qualifies as stand up. Looks like it will be shown again tonight at 7pm EST.
No, I’m saying the man can walk on cold and do an hour. The best comics working today can’t do ten minutes without significant prep time.
I can’t stand him. Not funny to me any more. Used to be.
<Slinks away…>
Oh, I doubt Bill Cosby ever walks on cold. He always wears one of his trademark hideous sweaters, you know :).
Lemme try:
“JELL-O! We’re gonna eat JELL-O!”
Nah, just doesn’t have the same ring.
Well… who told you… that you was… the big… Jell-O Sheriff of the house??
