Also, Cosby’s accusers are not being funded by a cabal of his political enemies.
It’s Esperanto for “turnip,” if that helps any…
One of your stories originated in the National Enquirer. Another involves a decades-old accusation by a woman with a history of mental illness.
30 years?
hell, I can’t remember last week!
Something smells about this story. Yes, celebs do bad things etc., but so does the public–look at the accusations of sexual misconduct towards the late Cardinal Bernadine–and the accuser finally 'fessed up that it was all a lie.
Bill Cosby? I’m gonna need some convincing on this one…
The state of proper English among our nation’s prison population is deeply disturbing. So are you a convict yourself, or just an Oz fan?
See how easily you buy into the villification.
She has no history of mental illness, she apparently had a substance abuse problem, and she told people 30 years ago that Cosby had drugged her and assaulted her. Is it just a coincidence that two other women all these years later just happened to make up the same bullshit story?
And why aren’t any of them asking for money?
I think I heard it in Shawshank Redemption…or maybe it was Hogan’s Heroes.
Because that would sink their credibility even lower. May as well keep silent on the money issue until the civil suit.
Of course, I’m presuming Cosby’s innocence rather than the credibility of his accusers, which as I understand it is how such matters are supposed to work.
You do know why that is funny, right? Hint: look at your OP, then come back and read your last post.
Huh, well dang. Way back in the '80s I had heard some fairly dodgy, secondhand stuff about Cos, admittedly stopping well short of date rape. The source was a young lady I was dating who worked as a receptionist in a Denver hotel where he had stayed for a while. Basically what she had said was that he was completely shameless about pushing the hotel staff to find girls (of the paid-for variety) for him to entertain in his room. Back then I thought it too out of character to be credible, but back then I was pretty naive. Not that this has anything in particular to do with the story linked by the OP, just a bit of grist for the mill, I guess.
[QUOTE=Diogenes the Cynic]
It seems to me like celebrities have a built in immunity for sex crimes because it’s impossible for a victim- even multiple victims- to make an accusation without being evsicerated by the public and accused of wanting money. Good news for Michael Jackson!
The linked article said she went into a centre for drug rehabilitation and mental health treatment without saying which she had gone in for. Also, uncredible is not a word.
They will look forward to having you on the jury at the trial for civil damages, then.
From the linked article:
“Green, who allowed her name to be used, said she came forward this week because her experience closely matched one alleged by the former Temple employee who went to police last month to report that Cosby had given her pills and fondled her at his suburban Philadelphia mansion a year ago.”
Not entirely independent.
Can’t this all be applied in reverse? All an accused can do is deny the allegation. He cannot possibly prove it did not happen. You say you accept that he is innocent until proven guilty, but you appear to have formed a view of his guilt already based on nothing more than the mere allegations themselves.
Yet.
Forgettin the two past women for a moment, why is the current accuser’s credibility “low?” is the simple act of making an accusation proof that a person has low credibility?
If the money motive is always going to be hurled at any accuser then how is it possible for anyone to ever be believed. It seems like if a person is rich then it’s impossible for any accuser to be believed (and never mind that this accuser has already turned down a significant offer from Cosby according to Fox Bews). If a person is genuinely assaulted by a rich celebrity should they NOT be entitled to sue? How can they if the very attempt to sue is seen as proof that they’re lying?
Is it your position that a civil suit would be proof that she was lying?
Only if you’re on a jury, which I am not.
You have repeated this claim several times, but the link that you provided does not now mention this point. What is your source of this claim?
It was during an interview on Fox News tonight with Greta Van Susteren. They claimed it was an “exclusive.”
I imagine there will be a transcript eventually but so far all I have is that I saw it on Fox.
Since when did you start using Fox as a reliable source for anything, Dio?
Truly. Man, the company you keep, Dio.
Am I the only one who sees a new reality show in all of this?
Michael Jackson and Bill Cosby sharing a cell… just think of all the whacky adventures they could have!
Well, we’re talking about a traumatic experience here (if it happened). Would you make the same comment to a Vietnam vet recalling memories of the war?
Hell, not only a traumatic experience, but one at the hands of a celebrity with a squeaky-clean image and a penchant for lecturing others on their moral failings. I’d go with the opposite extreme and ask how you could forget that!
Like you and most of the others in this thread, though, I won’t rush to judgement over the whole affair. I always kind of liked Cosby, so I hope it’s not true. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how the whole thing plays out.
Did you know Kinch had a radio in the coffee pot?
Oh. My. God. Well then, it must be true. Fair and balanced, right? (Insert about a hundred billion rolleyes smilies yourself; I don’t wanna tax the hamsters.)
Jumping Jesus Christ on a Jello Pudding Pop, Diogenes. If someone used FUX as a cite for an anti-Kerry claim during the election, would you have nodded humbly and said “Ah, if someone who’s part of the esteemed FOX news media empire says it, that’s good enough for me!” Remember how those so-called Swift Boat Vets made claims about shit that happened thirty+ years ago? They didn’t ask for money either. Not directly, anyway. But did you buy their stories just because you heard 'em on Rupert Murdoch’s esteemed shit-slinging machine?
Fuck no, I’m sure you didn’t. (And well you shouldn’t have, but that’s another thread.)
So far we have quotes from FUX and the Nat’l Enquirer. And you’re swallowing them without so much as a “hmm, well, I guess I’d better wait for a more reputable media outlet – if that’s not a contradiction in terms these days – to report on this issue.” The hell???
Y’know Dio, you don’t know me from Adam, but my very first post at the Dope lauded you for being my favorite Doper. You were an angry lefty, a raised, passionate voice I desperately wanted to hear (okay, “see” – it being a message board and all). You didn’t back down, you seemed to have well researched info, and generally you came across as an intelligent firebrand. When I delurked at last it was in response to something you said, and I remember praising you at the time.
But hypocritical shit like this makes me cringe to remember that as my entry here. Not that you should care, of course, I mean who the hell am I? An SDMB nobody. All I’m saying is that I don’t know if I just hadn’t read enough of your output, or if you have only recently taken a plunge into woo-woo territory due to the admittedly maddening election farce. (Can’t say I blame you if you did, 'cause I’m teetering on the edge meself.) But I wish you could see how contradictory and self-defeating many of your posts have been lately.
Again, I say this not as one of the anti-Dio freaks out there, but as someone who agrees with many of your views and who used to get a real kick out of you as a passionate voice of the left: It’s really fucking disappointing.
Is Cosby a rapist? I dunno. Is he a womanizer? Quite possible, sure. But I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt, because that’s sorta what we’re supposed to do in the U.S. – at least, until I see some much harder proof of his perfidy than some attorney who may well have an eye on a civil suit prize or book deal from Ballentine. And that proof had damn well better come from someplace more reliable than the house that Roger Ailles’ wet dreams built.
