Bill Frist STILL doesn't get it...

Me too! I’m counting the days. I got a survey from Frist’s office a few weeks ago (only sent to his “strongest supporters”, heh) and I dutifully filled it out. I don’t think he will like my answers, though.

Btw, EC, we live in the same town!

This is your only post in this thread. Why, I’m honored. ::: preen :::

15 years in AA in good standing, but of course with only my say so that I have been sober and who would believe me because you have now so ‘astutely outed’ me.

There are so many mirror shy people on the SDMB, I find it fun to poke them a bit.

Untested virtue is meaningless IMO.

YMMV

As are some posts. Do you have a point that is on topic?

Bill Frist is a disgrace to the state of Tennessee.

The President is not MY Commander-in-Chief because I’m not in the military. He’s my president, and he serves at the pleasure of the people. It is my right as an American citizen to say anything I want about him. He is an incompetent, lying boob and he deserves to be impeached, removed from office and sent to Iraq to clean toilets for the rest of his natural life. But censure will have to do for now.

duffer is increasingly incoherent, which is probably to be expected given the declining quality of the talking points with which he is provided.

I’m sorry. I just can’t let that one go unnoticed. Smart people mind their grammar, and that includes punctuation.

Robin

That was me.

Robin

On topic? I’d settle for coherent at this point.

I apologise, GusNSpot. I assumed your incoherence was a result of alcohol. I stand corrected.

What kind of people mind their login?

Teehee! Thanks for the chuckle. Now I’ve got visions of a Jackson 5 “tribute” group where the members dress up as thier favorite genocidal dictator. Maybe something along the lines of a GWAR show, but weird.

It was a regional straw poll held in Frist’s home state. It would have meant curtains for him if he lost, but means virtually nothing that he won. Sorry, but Frist ain’t gonna win the GOP nomination. No way.

As for the OP, I kind of feel sorry for Feingold. He seems like a man of principle in a town full of unprincipled men. Even Harry Reid didn’t support his censure propsal. With friends like that, who needs Frist? In fact, cnn reports that:

Interesting, according to Chis Matthews on Hardball, the Senate has only censured a president once, and that was during Andrew Jackson’s presidency.

One wonders if the Republicans would be politically smart to let the Senate vote on this resolution. How many Dems would be willing to go on record supporting it? I think the NSA program is one of the few things Bush is doing that gets a majority approval in the polls.

I think it was 2 or 3 years after that the Dems gained control of Congress and either overturned it, or pardoned it, or whatever it is they do to lessen it.

IIRC, though it happened, it didn’t really happen. Much like Clinton’s impeachment, it’s really little more than a trivia question. It isn’t a big deal to anyone other than those that are political junkies.

And I suspect if Bush were censured, most Americans would interpret it as “censored”. They’d probably think the Dems voted to play one long BEEEEEEP during the next SOTU.

And just to cover all the bases, half those Americans voted for the Dems. Just to head off the inevitable cheap shots.

It doesn’t even get a majority approval if the question is phrased badly.

This Pew Poll asks if the President should “monitor” Americans who have terrorist ties, and it only gets 48% thinking it’s a good idea, with 47% against.

This quote from USAToday “Fifty-one percent of Americans said the administration was wrong to intercept conversations involving a party inside the USA without a warrant. In response to another question, 58% of Americans said they support the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate the program.” is what you get when the question is asked if the president should be spying on Americans WITHOUT a warrant.

That is the deal. No one, despite what Scotty McLellan says, is saying we shouldn’t be spying on terrorists. What we are saying is get a warrant if you want to spy on Americans.

What about non-citizens? Can we spy on them without warrants? Specifically I’m wondering about guest workers and students among others. People inside the US but not US citizens.

I’m not being facetious on this. I’m honestly curious about board member’s views about it.

I cannot believe that Frist (R - Cat Killer) got this sentence out with a straight face. “Bold vision”? “making our homeland safer”? Has he really drunk the Kool-Aid or is he just Bush’s bitch?

Political rhetoric is a funny thing. So many practice it, and every one of them say it’s wrong when the statement isn’t in sync with thier thinking.
What if I were to ask for cites showing attacks on American soil since 9/11/01? A good argument could be made that the increased security measures and governmental policies may have been the reason. Whether you believe them or not, there have been reports that plots have been quashed.

What’s the alternative? Stating there weren’t any plots and there was never any danger.

In either case, the lack of attacks and the reason for it can’t be shown. One of the two reasons is correct, but how the hell can we tell which is right?

On one hand we have concrete policy and no attacks. On the other hand, we have no attacks and a policy to make political hay over.

We haven’t suffered any further attacks yet. It’s because the Republicans are right, or the Democrats are right. (It’s not because the attacks aren’t being planned.)

I tend to take established policy over rhetoric. If I’m wrong it will eventually be shown. But for right now, I’ll put stock in what is being done. Not what is being talked about.

This statement is absolutely top notch. My hat is off to you.

LOL, just love the pit.

I made some comments on what I felt were the root causes of some of the wilder stances by posters in this thread. They really don’t like to look at their motivations much and I enjoy pointing this out. So, IMO, I was on topic enough for the ‘pit’

Hombrew, you been here so long that you have bought the whole SDMB hateful stick lock stock and barrel. We were your friend on another board, tried to encourage you with emails and offers of getting together , even on your move to St Louis. You repay that with hate. Snide cutting remarks from ambush. I can only take this caustic remark by you to mean that being a friend to you is a really bad decision. You can consider any offers made by the “Dragon’s” to be rescinded. I’m sure you were aiming for that all along.

On topic is the requirement for post to in this type of thread? Ahhhhh That is so obvious… Bawahahaha

I’m kinda old now and most of the things I’ve done are past and not in vogue anymore. I will wait and listen to what you have accomplished with your life and seen the actual contributions to any part of the planets well being.

I feel my comments were with in the boundary of this thread.

YMMV

Anonymous message boards are so enlightening…

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed
from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive
network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don’t want,
while calling each other “asshats”.

This argument always reminds me of the Simpsons…
“That’s Specious reasoning, Dad!”
“Why thank you, Lisa.”

Just like in that episode, if I told you this rock kept away tigers, or terrorists, would you buy that? There are no tigers or terrorists here, so it must work.
