Bill Murray to play... FDR?

And it looks like he just might pull it off in Hyde Park on Hudson:

Here’s the Wiki article on the movie: Hyde Park on Hudson - Wikipedia

Nice to see Olivia Williams and Murray teamed up for (I think) the first time since Rushmore. Too bad they couldn’t have landed Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter to play Their Majesties again, though!

That looks . . . pretty good!

Olivia Colman as the Queen Mother. Now there’s a thing.

A good thing?

Wow. That looks really interesting.

Nit pick: as Queen Elizabeth. At that time, the Queen Mother was Queen Mary (though I don’t think she was called “Queen Mother” – just “Queen Mary”, since there’s weren’t two Queen Elizabeths to be distingished).

BTW, you can watch all of the PBS series Bertie & Elizabeth on YouTube. Queen Mary is an interesting character, very stiff upper lip, Queen first, mother second.

Very much so, she’s a great actress. But such an unexpected role for her.

Yeah, but I didn’t want to confuse those easily befuddled by Royal doings.

I hope it doesn’t end with him whispering something in Margaret Suckley’s ear that delights her but the audience never hears.

Ah, I just looked her up on IMDB.com. The only other movie I’ve seen her in was Hot Fuzz, as the borderline-nympho Sandford police officer.

Indeed, that looks good.
I am surprised.

Looks like Bill is trolling for Oscar, if it’s half as good as the trailer, he’ll get the nomination.

Agree. Dude already has a top-50 acting performance of all time:

I’ve seen the trailer several times, and and am really looking forward to this film.

I hope Bill gets to sneak some of that teasing Murray mischief into his portrayal of the martini-sipping patrician.

I hope they don’t hoke up the 30s music too much, with lounge singers and smoky-cool combo jazz.

I hope FDR shows off his television set and the Queen Mum says, “oh yes, we’ve got one of those.”

I’m looking forward to this. I hadn’t heard of the visit before I saw the trailer and it seems an interesting slice of American and British history.

Thanks for that link. I read all the other links too, such as FDR’s invitation to the King and the King’s response. It’s too bad the kids didn’t come too.

All the actors are top notch, Murray, Linney, Coleman, Williams. The actor playing the King, Samuel West, is new to me. The director’s name, Roger Michell, wasn’t familiar to me but after looking him up I see that he directed these movies I’ve seen and liked: Notting Hill (with of course, Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant), Changing Lanes (with Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Affleck), and Venus (with Peter O’Toole, nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, and Jodie Whittaker). His most recent movie was Morning Glory, with Diane Keaton, Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams, which I skipped because it looked awful, but I might have seen it had I known about those other movies the guy directed.

I’ll have to start ignoring the trailer by closing my eyes and plugging my ears. I’ve seen it several times already and the movie won’t be released until December! I don’t want to get sick of it, or get used to line readings or scenes that don’t end up in the finished film. That always jars me out of a film.

Is Queen Elizabeth, wife of George VI described in the link the present Queen Mother?

Except she’s dead now, but yes.

I am apparently ten years out of date on British History.
A drop in the bucket.

Yeah, yeah, Google is my friend.

Well, she’s more compost than composed now, but yeah.
