What exactly, in their own original, complete and in context words did they say?
It’s a little naive to think there is no other life in the cosmos or even trans dimensional. What do you think the actually statistical odds are?
Who knows? Now, about those astronauts and what they actually said…
The question is not whether there is life out there. The question is whether inteligent beings with advanced technology are visiting us.
As for how likely that is, I can’t remember if a Durok or Drake equation is calle for.
What do you think the odds are any of those purported beings might happen to come here?
I want the Galaxy to teeming with life, buzzing around at FTL speeds and stopping in at our little blue world. I honestly hope we are not alone here out on our spiral arm. Hence my screen name.
Want or even belief on my part is not enough, evidence is required. Show some physics that allow for FTL travel, an actual alien or a new material that is impossible for us to make and I and probably the rest of this board will stand up and take notice.
I look forward to it

Yesterday I walked past a three card monte dealer on my way to work. It looked like it would be really easy to pick out the correct card. I know that lots of three card monte dealers use sleight of hand to trick people, but what if this guy is one of the legitimate ones?
So I’m asking you to send me some money so I can invest in this amazing opportunity. The dealer has this really big guy standing guard beside him, so there won’t be any trouble with outsiders interfering.
Here are excerpts from (and links to) the official NASA transcripts of Cernan, Young and Stafford discussing UFOs in the Apollo 10 capsule.
UFO = Unclaimed Floating Object
To reiterate DocCathode’s point, you are conflating two separate things:
- That there is not just other life but intelligent life somewhere in the universe.
- That such life has visited earth and there is evidence of the same.
You are trying to conflate the two here, and that’s a lapse in logic.
FTR, most Dopers believe (1) to be true. Most Dopers also believe no good evidence of any intelligent extraterrestrial life has yet been presented and that no evidence of visitations to Earth have been presented. These are not contradictory positions.
What Great AntiBob said. This board has certainly got tons of nerds, scifi geeks, engineers, scientists of all kinds and many other people who are just plain fascinated by the idea of alien life. Years ago when there was a story about signs of bacteria in a meteorite from Mars I’m sure I was not alone in thinking something along the lines of “Holy crap, if this is true it will be amazing. Life from another world! OMG!”
And that was over petrified microbiological remnants. Imagine the reaction if we find the proverbial Little Green Men.
But nobody is going to run around celebrating their discovery until there’s plenty of evidence for it, stuff that holds up to review. Mr. Meier’s claims, like all the others so far, doesn’t stand up to a skeptical examination. And because there have been so many such claims and none of them have produced anything, people tend to react as you’re seeing here the next time that a similar claim is presented.
Let’s start with “some” and go from there.
I would settle for “any”.

The important part of the Meier material is not the photos but rather the other material such as spiritual teachings and prophecies. The Meier case is designed with plausible deniability which means it cannot be absolutely proven nor debunked. So a neutral stance is called for regarding the Meier case. The purpose is to prevent it from becoming another false cult religion. The Meier material is voluminous, so don’t get stuck on the photos which are only of secondary importance.
I love you. Can we mate and pump out perfect alien babies?
TheBodhi, do you believe in fairies? Leprechauns? Santa Claus? Unicorns?
Should we keep an open mind about those? Is there some point where only the gullible would seriously think these exist? That’s the way many of us feel about cranks like Billy Meier. He’s so far out there in the unbelievable sphere that it’s a waste of time to even discuss it. Prove Santa Claus exists first, then we’ll talk about Meier.

Thanks, NewInitiation from the FAQ on your link we learn that Billy feels Darwinian evolution is false.

I’m not stupid. My intellect tells me something different from the crazy brain of Darwin, who set this shower story in the world and fraudulently substantiated it with distorted ape bones, which has been concealed and kept secret by the responsible persons up to this day.

Scientist astonished at Billy Meier's prophetic accuracy | TheyFly.com
There’s no misunderstanding.
So explain why this one scientist’s opinion is so much more persuasive than the many who disagree with Meier.
