One bit of discomfort. The Prez was emphatic about the operation being carried out by military personnel, special forces. Which is understandable, given the unpopularity of Robowar amongst the hearts and minds. But they attacked a cluster of violent and well-armed terrorists, direct combat with small arms, and had no casualties? Remarkable.

Three. I never feel good about our country killing people. I always feel sad when we do it.
But it’s going to happen, no matter where you are in the world. People are only human, and the drive to see someone who has hurt you hurt in return is hugely strong. Especially when that someone has then been carrying on for the better part of a decade, still trying to hurt you and yours.
I don’t blame the folks partying outside the WH. September 11 is still a very raw wound for Americans, speaking from an outside perspective. The relief a ton of people are feeling is palpable.
I saw this discussed on another site, as well. The consensus seemed to be:
- This was a completely All-Stars Special Forces operation.
- The compound was not on any special alert.
- The attack happened during the night.
- It was a very quick smash, grab and run operation, with helicopters standing by.
- Bin Laden probably had no reason to believe his cover had been made.
But I’ll admit I was looking forward to Gaddafi’s death and now it it’s going to seem kind of second-rate.
Looks like the US forces had complete initiative and surprise. That would include full body armor.
