First, he’s probably talking out of his butt.
Secondly, even if he isn’t, the chances of anything succeeding are lower than pre-9/11.
Thirdly, even if they manage something, they would have to be very lucky for it to be 100% successful.
Fourthly, even if they plan something and it does come to total fruition, America is a big old place, with a lot of people. The chances of you personally being whacked are very small.
As of the time of this post CNN is reporting that the voice is authentic. What has yet to be determined is when was it recorded. Some news outlets speculate it could be an old recording. As far as the actual threat is concerned, I’m not losing any sleep over it. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t there is no way to tell if it was an empty threat, or the threat was stopped before the fact.
Tactically it would make little sense for them to send us this warning. I mean, they might be trying to scare us more but I just don’t see it. Perhaps this is a byproduct of the US over-confidence… shrug
Causing you to live your life in fear is what terrorists want. There’s nothing you can do about any impending attack. You should go about your normal routine and try not to worry.
Honestly, I’m beyond surprised that we haven’t suffered a major terrorist attack since 9/11/01. Kinahora.
Seems to me that he’s crying wolf again. I’m sure he’s “planning” something (what kind of a terror mastermind would he be if he wasn’t always cooking something up?), and something may happen that can be linked back to Al Q, but I don’t think it’s going to be the spectacularly devestating thing that bin Laden may have in mind.

I’m sure they’re planning things, but the odds are really against them doing anything big. And I’m not sure how involved in any of it Bin Laden is.
Hell, I was deeply upset by it too, and I don’t even live that side of the Atlantic. Your question “should I be scared” I thought referred directly to your personal safety. There are tragedies every day all over the world. If you lived in fear of all of them, you’d be permanently terrified.
In addition to all the good reaons already put forth, I (generallly) don’t worry about things I can’t do anything about.
This is the last thing that might make me lose any sleep.
Up to now, I have been totally unable to stop my government from doing the stupid things that make the world more dangerous. I try not to dwell on things I cannot change.

Nope. I wasn’t afraid on 9/11 either. Strangely enough, I worry more about my car being stolen then being killed by terrorists(and I don’t live in bad neighborhood).
I always wondered…what’s the point? Particulary a 5 color scale when we will never go below yellow. Why is there a Green and Blue if it’s obvious we’re never going to be at Blue or Green Alert?
The timing of this so called announcement has my bullshit meter pinging a bit. A day without House ethics problems and other Republican woes on the news? Today’s news could have been full of Senate Dems denouncing Alito, but here someone pulls the terrorist rabbit out of their hat again?
I’m more worried about the fires in Texas than I am about Osama.
IIRC there was some news items a few days ago theorising that OBL is either very sick or dead. This might be just to reassure the adoring masses.
Here they are, right at the top right of the Homeland Security Website. We’re at yellow, ‘Significant Risk of Terrorist Attacks’ now. We’ve been stuck there for some time and there are no plans to raise it because of Osama’s little home video. For that we’ll just have to wait till summer, when the elections are a little closer.
