7. Name a currently working black male artist (i.e., painting, sculpture, etc.).
Did I just call Kara Walker a man?!?! :smack: In my own feud thread too. This, along with my place-centric choices of “New York” and “David Dinkins,” doesn’t bode well for me I’m afraid.

I saw that. Just hope somebody else hops on board. Heck, I once called France a country with a five letter name, and got points. I picked Dinkins too.
Edited simply to correct a spelling and to admit my shame in not realizing Romare Bearden had died twenty years ago. For the mayor, I wanted to put Carl Stokes (his election was big news when I was growing up in the Cleveland area), but figured Washington would get more votes in this Feud.
I’ll bet #7 will be all over the place, since the definition of “artist” is flexible.
For #3 I picked Holiday because she will probably be easier for folks to remember than Bessie Smith.
For #5 I almost picked Aaron Douglas, but like #3 I figure more players will recognize Hughes than Douglas. And Douglas was born right here in Topeka, and there’s a park named for him!

If any of you have ideas for Feuds -and would like me to score them- PM me and I’ll get you on The List.
DO NOT READ THIS THREAD BEFORE YOU POST YOUR ANSWERS
Try to think of the most popular answer, to get the most people matching you. Scoring - Any answer duplicated by anyone else is worth 100 points divided by the number of entrants. For example: 50 entrant game = 2 pts per answer. If 4 people match that means they each get 8 pts for that answer. No matches = 0 points.
FORMATTING OF ANSWERS IS IMPORTANT!
Write your answers like this; Do not repeat the questions, no periods at the end of answers, no spaces between lines, no comments, no fancy list coding. If you need to comment or clarify your answers, do it AFTER the list of answers. Thanks.
JUST LIKE THIS:
1. answer
2. response
3. rejoinder
The game will end either when we have 50 entrants, or at 4:30 PM Central on Wednesday, 7/23/08 whichever comes first. Good luck!
Name a music artist(s) for whom a biopic has been filmed, either as a television or theatrical release.
Besides the Williams sisters, name a top-20 tennis player, past or present.

Name a state that abolished or introduced measures to abolish slavery pre-Emancipation Proclamation.
Name an artist of any genre from the era of the Harlem Renaissance.

I’m sorry - I don’t follow football enough to think of any QBs by name who haven’t come up in the news for other reasons.
I want to say Sydney Poitier, but I doubt he’ll be popular in this feud.
Unfortunately, while I can think of many black politicians who’ve filled the office of mayor of a city, I can’t think of any that are otherwise famous or infamous to be a popular answer. Former Mayor William A. Johnson of Rochester just won’t really pick up many votes, outside of truly dedicated New Yorkers, I don’t think.
The problem is that mayors are usually just local figures. The only way they normally get a national reputation is if they’re associated with some scandal or disaster.

And it has to be a large scale scandal. William Johnson, for example, left office under a cloud from a bungled ferry to Toronto deal he tried to set up. But outside of the area, it’s not really going to be recognizable to many people.
