Black mark on white refrigerator

Hi,

The refrigerator in my kitchen had 2-3 black marks and a sticker left by the previous resident. I cleaned it and the mark has spread now. I’ve tried all possible options that I’ve read but to no vail. I’m moving in 10 days and need to get rid of the mark to get my deposit back. Please suggest what can be done about it.

Since the OP is looking for advice, let’s move this to IMHO.

Goo-gone or Dissolve-it.

  1. Zep heavy duty kitchen degreaser orange. Spray it on. Let it sit. Wipe it off.

If that doesn’t work:

  1. Goo Gone for the sticker, Magic Eraser for black marks.

If that doesn’t work:

  1. Carbona. This was always my mom’s cleaner of last resort. But it worked great on scuff marks on our kitchen floor…

My husband also recommended brake cleaner. Don’t worry - I gave him a beer and told him to go lay down since the grown folk were busy talking.

Mr. Clean magic eraser. Outstanding product good for many things.

Is it just sticker residue?

Try vodka.

Seriously, alcohol is very good for removing that stuff. Pure rubbing alcohol works best, but vodka (or any type of spirit) should do the job, and you’re more likely to have that around the house.

Alternatively:
Lighter fluid (but make sure it contains naphtha)
Acetone (eg nail polish remover) - but TEST it (somewhere you can’t see) first. On paint you should probably be OK, but acetone can dissolve certain plastics.
WD-40 - not as good as the above, but I’ve used it before with decent results.

If it was there when you moved in - did you document it? If so - let the leandlord deal iwth it and move on.

otherwise - all of the above - especially goo-gone - should do the trick.

If you documented it when you got the apartment (which you should have), then you should be in the clear.

If not, paint over it in the hopes that you can get it close enough so that it doesn’t stand out enough for a second glance.

I was an RA in college, and am reminded of the nimrod in college who filled the nail holes in his wall with toothpaste… pale green toothpaste. Every nail hole was clearly visible as a green dot on the wall. Had he just used some white variety, I’d never have really noticed. So that’s what you’re looking to do… use some color that won’t stand out.

Another alternative to Goo-Gone is WD-40, It will get the sticker off and probably the black marks too. If not, the Magic Eraser is your best bet.

Another vote for the Magic Eraser.
