i saw them on their reunion tour and they still were pretty good!!
Gov’t Mule does some great Sabbath covers if anyone is interested in checking them out, you should be able to find it pretty easily (war pigs, sweet leaf)
Has anyone ever heard the original version of Warning by Ainsley Dunbar’s Retaliation?
I THINK Warning is one of only 2 songs Sabbath covered in the studio (the other being Crow’s Evil Woman). Live is another story, can anyone say Blue Suede shoes?
aite…I don’t know what happened to the message that I posted but slee, thanks for picking up where I left off.
Joe K: you hit it on the dot. Before the Black Sabbath became the infamous group we love and adore, they used to be a blues band called Earth. I just heard the extended version of Wicked World on the Past Lives CD and there is apart where Iommi, Butler and Ward play this jazzy little jazzy shuffle. I heard in the Don’t Blame Me DVD, you can see Ozzy croon Blue Suede Shoes with his blues band. I haven’t seen it yet, but I must say, I’m quite intrigued.
My favorite Black Sabbath album used to be Paranoid until I heard Past Lives. Here is my review: It’s a remastered, repackaged version of Live At Last, in a double CD combo. IMHO, the bonus CD is off the hook. It has new renditions of Hole in the Sky, Symptom of the Universe, and Megalomania. It also features classic trademarks like Iron Man, War Pigs, etc.
I’ve been on a bit of a Sabbs kick lately, with The Osbournes being pretty much the only show I’ve seen on TV the last few months.
I gave a list of my favourite songs in the other thread, but I’m going to put in another mention of the Dio-era epics, which bring back so many great memories. Definitely the best thing Ronnie’s ever done.
Does anyone remember a compilation LP called The Best, which had a bat on the front cover, with flames, and great songs from their first five records? That one covers some lesser known classics like Snowblind and Changes (no, I’m not kidding).
I love the Osbournes. I think next season is going to be pretty interesting. I heard they are going to tape Sharon’s chemotherapy and they also adopted Kelly’s friend, Robert. His mother just past away from cancer herself and apparently Sharon was pretty close with her.
.Joe K and Fader: arg! in my previous post i was actually talking about wicked world from live at last, not warning. it’s an awesome jazz break in the middle of this huge heavy solo by iomii, definatly pick up live at last
JohnBckWLD: i didn’t know warning was a cover song, i’m gonna re-check my credits on that album.
