Top 6@6 Week #14: Your BLACK SABBATH Faves AND Black Crowes Results From Week #13

Polling is closed. Thanks to the Dopers who responded. Honorable mentions this week go to grendel72; who pointed out “Life’s Too Good” exists as neither a Sugarcubes album track nor single. Lost virginity greetings and salutations go to bibliophile & Treviathan who decided to use the Black Crowes poll as their 1st time “rock the vote” opportunity. Side note to WSLer: As per your AC/DC poll request in both last week’s poll and e-mail; there will be a supplemental AC/DC poll in Café Society that I will post (and link back to this) week’s poll and results.

Issue 5: Notes & Asides

  1. This is a democracy, so once again, if you feel I’ve passed alphabetically passed over a band say so. I {try to} show no bias toward any group. If there are no requests, next week will feature: Blink (182)
(For you older indie fans: The Cheshire Cat, NOT “A Map of the Universe” Blink)

  2. If you want to vote in WSLER’s AC/DC ‘Supplemental’ Poll, you can find it right near this poll in Café Society, or click my signature’s link bottom of this post.

Issue 6: This weeks poll
The tenth “B” band, the Godfathers of Grunge: Black Sabbath.
Here are my 6 Black Sabbath picks:

  1. Under The Sun-Everyday Comes And Goes
  2. Megalomania
  3. Warning
  4. Sweet Leaf
  5. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
  6. Hand Of Doom

Thanking you all in advance Bye-Bye

Okay… this is another tough one. Lots of excellent tracks won’t make the cut.

#6 “Wheels of Confusion”
#5 “Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath”
#4 “Neon Knights”
#3 “Fairies Wear Boots”
#2 “Hole in the Sky”
#1 “War Pigs”

I regret that I couldn’t include “The Wizard,” “Behind the Wall of Sleep,” “Children of the Grave,” “N.I.B.”, “Snowblind,” “Never Say Die,” and “The Mob Rules,” among others. (I liked the Ronnie James Dio era more than most Sabbath fans did.)

I guess I am going to have to go with Sabbath’s “hits”

#6 “Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath”
#5 “Sweet Leaf”
#4 “War Pigs”
#3 “Iron Man”
#2 “Paranoid”
#1 I don’t know the title. I haven’t heard the song all that many times, the local ‘Real Rock Radio’ station rarely plays it.
The refrain goes something like

Your love for me has just got to be real-
before you know the way I’m going to feel,
I’m going to feel,
duh, duh, duh, dunt,
duh, duh, duh, ,dunt, duh, duh, duh, ,dunt,
OH YEAH!

Not much of a metal fan, but I like some Sabbath:

  1. Paranoid
  2. War Pigs
  3. N.I.B.
  4. Iron Man despite it’s being the guitar’s equivalent of chopsticks.
  5. Sweet Leaf
  6. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
  1. Faries wear boots
  2. Heaven and Hell
  3. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
  4. War Pigs
  5. Iron Man
  6. Paranoid

Really hard to pick just 6 again. I wanted to pick some less likely to be picked by others, but I couldnt NOT pick Iron Man, War Pigs or Paranoid. Double negatives RAWK!!!
dead0man

Let the record show that 5 Time CHamp’s #1 selection is “N.I.B.”

  1. Iron Man
  2. Faries Wear Boots
  3. Heaven and Hell
  4. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
  5. Paranoid
  1. Sweet Leaf

Sorry about that, I forgot that one whrn I cut and pasted.

  1. War Pigs
  2. Paranoid
  3. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
  4. Iron Man
  5. Heaven and Hell
  6. Sweet leaf

what can I say, at heart I’m still a stoner

  1. War Pigs
  2. Black Sabbath
  3. Spiral Architect
  4. Heaven and Hell
  5. Trashed (hey, the Gillan era ROCKED!!!)
  6. N.I.B.
  1. Faeries wear Boots
  2. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
  3. Black Sabbath
  4. N.I.B.
  5. Paranoid
  6. War Pigs

[request]
Are you going to do Alice Cooper under C (can be both)? If not, I request Alice Cooper.
[/request]

Thank you, Astorian

  1. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
  2. Black Sabbath
  3. Nativity In Black
  4. War Pigs
  5. Iron Man
  6. Paranoid

Ah, the good ol’ Sabs … let’s see …

  1. Black Sabbath
  2. Symptom of the Universe
  3. Iron Man
  4. Die Young
  5. Paranoid
  6. Falling off the edge of the World

And yes - An Alice Cooper poll would be great

  1. Eternal Idol (My token vote for Tony Martin, a pretty good vocalist who suffered through the post Dio years, as did we all)
  2. Hole In The Sky
  3. A National Acrobat
  4. After Forever
  5. Hand Of Doom
  6. Killing Yourself to Live

The greatest hard rock/metal band of all-time bar none, and I am supposed to pick just 6 tracks? Well here goes, and with all due respect, Paranoid and Iron Man and War Pigs do not belong in any top 6 lists.
6> Killing Yourself To Live
5> Symptom of the Universe
4> Into the Void
3> Hand of Doom
2> Children of the Grave
1> Electric Funeral

This is not a test:

A poster on your boards, against the wishes of moderators, federal, state, and local authorities, has developed this bump to inform you of an emergency.

As it currently stands: Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” is about to win first place. An unnamed individual with links to underground pirate radio does not want that to happen. Nor does he want to see Ironman or War Pigs win either. He has nothing against these songs, he just feels there are much better selections that deserve a higher standing.

Truth be told, he’d even rather see A Bit Of Finger / Sleeping Village, All Moving Parts (Stand Still), Back Street Kids, Cornucopia, Disturbing The Priest, Don’t Start (Too Late), Electric Funeral, Hole In The Sky, Killing Yourself To Live, Looking For Today, Saint Vitus’ Dance, Shock Wave, Snowblind, Solitude, Supernaut, Symptom Of The Universe, The Mob Rules, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, The Thrill Of It All, The Wizard, The Writ, Tomorrow’s Dream, Trashed, Voodoo, Wasp / Behind The Wall Of Sleep, Wheels Of Confusion-The Straightner or even Who Are You ? win instead of the 3 staples the AOR PD’s continually ram down you throats.

Please contemplate before you vote.

Relax, listen to some Black Sabbath in Latin as recently linked in Johnny Angel’s Cafe Society Thread.

Had this been a more serious emergency, you would have been instructed where to tune in your area for official news, information, or instructions.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

Side Note: The answer to Dragon Phoenix’s & HenrySpencer’s request is Yes (if we make it to the C’s). The tentative sequence for that section of the alphabet will be:

…The Clash, Joe Cocker, Leonard Cohen (maybe), Collective Soul, Concrete Blond, Ry Cooder (maybe), Sam Cooke,

Alice Cooper

Elvis Costello, Cowboy Junkies, Cracker…

  1. Saint Vitus Dance
  2. Zero the Hero
  3. Juniors Eyes
  4. Wheels Of Confusion-The Straightner
  5. Warning
  6. Tomorrows Dream

notice utter disregard for ‘ronnie the midget’

Jeremy’s Evil Twin:
i’d be hard pressed to call 1 album/1 tour with gillian an ‘era’, but he was certainly the best vocals besides ozzy.

  1. Spiral Architect
  2. Dirty Women
  3. N.I.B.
  4. Snowblind
  5. Into the Void
  6. War Pigs
