4th: Week #32’s Featured Poll Artist Results:
Tabulation Notes: Slightly more turnout than I expected…especially for Alice. As for Craiger not having a clue about his #1 Cheap Trick pick (Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace) not being mentioned by anyone else: get used to it…it happens a lot.
The accounting department at the 6@6 corporate offices tries to be as accurate as possible & not screw up the results (like they did with the Beatles “A Day in the Life”, Nick Cave’s “The Ship Song” & Sabbath’s “NIB”). If you find any errors please report them.

7th: Tentative Schedule & Disclaimers
To wrap these polls up ASAP, there will usually be 3 polls per week:
[ol][li]Featured Poll: With results from all the previous weeks’ polls.[/li]Color Code: Blue
[li]A Headliner Poll: Complimenting the Featured artist.[/li]Color Code: Red
[li]A Supplemental Poll: When necessary.[/li]Color Code: Green[/ol]Based on requests and the like:
[li]This Week: The Clash / Elvis Costello & Collective Soul. [/li][li]Week #34: Cream / Eric Clapton & Ginger Baker’s Airforce, Jack Bruce / Graham Bond Organization. []Week #35: Concrete Blond / Cowboy Junkies & The Cocteau Twins (for Skijumper).[/li][li] Week #36: Cheryl Crow (for elfkin477 & Treviathan) / Chicago (for 5 time champ) & Jim Croce (for Sunshine).[/li][li]Week #37: Cracker / Camper Van Beethoven (for Tit Whistle).[/li][li]Week #38: Creed /Counting Crows (for Treviathan) & Crowded House.[/li][li]Week #39: Creedence Clearwater Revival / John Fogerty & Commander Cody (for Labdad).[/li][li]Week #40: CSN(&Y) (for cmkeller) / Neil Young & Stills / Manassas, Crosby / Nash & Others. If I don’t hear to the contrary, we’ll be in the D’s by the end of January 2003.

8th: Week #33’s Headliner Poll (In another, as yet unknown, thread)
I can’t provide a link to it because the featured poll and results get posted first. Access it one of 3 ways: [ol][li]Click the link on my signature.[]Access it through the Café Society page.[]Bog down the server and do a search on: The Week #33’s Headliner 6@6 Poll…Elvis Costello[/ol][/li]9th: Week #33’s Supplemental Poll
(Same story as the Headliner Poll)
The Week #33’s Supplemental 6@6 Poll…Collective Soul

10th: Week #33’s Featured Poll Artist’s Discography
If your memory of the featured artist isn’t exactly up to speed, here’s a link to their truncated discography (usually) with 30 second previews of some of the tracks when you drill down through the albums: Cut The Crap Combat Rock Sandinista! London Calling Clash Give 'em Enough Rope.

To make narrowing it down to just 6 selections that much more of a harrowing experience, not only do you have the whole Clash discography to choose from, but you also have:

B.A.D (Big Audio {Dynamite} <II>): Globe No. 10 Upping Street This Is Big Audio Dynamite

And, for the die-hards…

Joe Strummer (& The Mescaleros): Global A Go-Go Rock Art & The X-Ray Style

To contend with

Discographies are provided by CD Now. If Martin C. Strong ever gets into web publishing, we’ll switch to his site as a source. The links are provided to refresh your Clash “101” knowledge & jar loose any forgotten titles. (Please refrain from voting based on .wav previews). You May include Cover Versions. If you specify Live version, it will be noted, but tallied together with the studio version of the same title.

Lastly: Week #32’s Featured Poll Artist
Without further ado:** The Clash**.

Here are my 6 CLASH / B.A.D selections:

 1. Rush (By B A D II) In hindsight, someone shoulda requested a BAD poll
 2. White Riot From their punk roots
 3. Train In Vain I think the single was subtitled Stand By Me
 4. London Calling My apologies to London’s Burning…not enough room
 5. The Magnificent Seven From Sandinista! Signifies the change in style, the change in decade & the beginning of the end
 6. Brand New Cadillac Let’s see if this brilliant cover version goes, once again, unmentioned

Now that was rough. Left so many on the cutting room floor here I’m wading knee deep in track titles. To make it that much more excruciating, Now I gotta go tear my hair out over in the Elvis Costello poll.

Thanking you all in advance. I hope to see some of you at the Elvis Costello and Collective Soul polls. Have a great week!

 1. Deny
 2. Safe European Home
 3. Complete Control
 4. 48 Hours
 5. What’s My Name
 6. Police & Thieves

Yayyyy! The Clash! Yay! Yay!
Oh God. . . 6 songs. . . the pain. . .

Rudy can’t Fail
Police and Thieves
I’m not down
Bank Robber
Hateful
Tommy Gun
While I like Combat Rock, I just can’t rank any of those up there. Same goes for Cut the Crap. If I could I’d just vote for most of London Calling, The Clash (eponymous) and Black Market, and list the exceptions which don’t rule. Alas. This poll hurt.

1977
Hitsville UK
White Man In Hammersmith Palais
Death Or Glory
Julies In The Drug Squad
The Sound of the Sinners

A tough choice.

Jon

I’m not a big Clash fan, but I liked a few tracks:

 1. Rock the Casbah (had to say that- the video was shot here in Austin!)
 2. I’m So Bored With the USA
 3. Train in Vain
 4. Police on my Back

Washington Bullets
Guns of Brixton
Justice Tonight/Kick it Over
Brand New Cadillac
Death or Glory
Jimmy Jazz

That was a tough one.

White Riot
I’m So Bored With The USA
London Calling
career opertunities
Janie Jones
Hate and War

Janie Jones

I’m Not Down

Rudie Can’t Fail

Clash City Rockers

Death or Glory

Complete Control

thanks for the personal message
I can get used to it
I can understand it
but it doesn’t keep my head from shaking

 1. Clampdown
 2. Gates of the West
 3. The Sound of Sinners
 4. Jimmie Jazz
 5. Tommy Gunn
 6. Janie Jones

This is damn tough. And, I hate their later work, so i’m choosing from less material than all y’all!

White Man in Hammersmith Palais
London Calling
White Riot
Hateful
Guns of Brixton

Hmm… I’m having trouble deciding between Tommy Gun, Rudie Can’t Fail and London’s Burning… I’ll get back to you for number six.

 1. Should I Stay or Should I Go?
 2. Rock the Casbah
 3. London Calling
 4. Train in Vain
 5. This is Radio Clash

Another really hard poll.

Train In Vain
I Fought the Law
Rudie can’t Fail
Rock the Casbah
Hateful
Brand New Cadillac

Two covers, I know. But I Fought the Law is such a masterly arrangement and Brand New Cadillac for me was the song that made it clear that punk was reclaiming rock and roll not supplanting it.

 1. I’m So Bored with the USA
 2. London Calling
 3. Complete Control
 4. Death or Glory
 5. I Fought the Law
 6. Train in Vain

And two poll requests: Ray Charles and Marshall Crenshaw

 1. Should I Stay or Should I Go?
 2. White Riot
 3. Rudie Can’t Fail
 4. London Calling
 5. The Card Cheat
 6. The Right Profile

Tough to narrow it to six. In no particular order:

Guns of Brixton
Wrong 'em Boyo
Train in Vain
Lost in the Supermarket
London Calling
Death or Glory

This one is really tough, especially since I like Sandinista!

My Six, in alphabetical order:
The Card Cheat – that piano intro, though not terribly “Clash”-like, sends shivers down my spine
I Fought the Law – one of the greatest covers of all time
Know Your Rights – all three of them! excellent rabble-rousing, which is what the Clash did better than anyone
Lost in the Supermarket – a sentimental favorite
Something About England – seventy years of English history in four minutes
Somebody Got Murdered – the Clash were always righteous, and never more than here

Honorable Mention:
English Civil War
London Calling
London’s Burning
Straight to Hell
What’s My Name
White Riot

and, from B.A.D.:
E=MC2

Arrrggh! Six, only six. Not fourteen, or even twelve. Just six…

okay, here goes in no particular order

Spanish Bombs
White Riot
I Fought the Law
Rudie Can’t Fail
London Calling

and

Medicine Show from the brilliant first BAD album.

In no particular order…

Rudy Can’t Fail
Hateful
White Man in Hammersmith Palais
Janie Jones
Clampdown
Pressure Drop

I haven’t seen Pressure Drop mentioned, but it’s a great song, a great cover, and a great example of the Clash crossing genres, which I think they did better than just about anyone.

1)rush
2)train in vain
3)should i stay or should i go
4)white man in hammersmith palais
5)the globe
6)london calling
[li]Straight to Hell[/li][li]White Man in Hammersmith Palais[/li][li]Radio Clash[/li][li]Guns of Brixton[/li][li]Spanish Bombs[/li][li]Magnificent Seven[/li]
These are just the first that I came up with off the top of my head. I could go on.
