Thanks; that was the first time I’ve actually seen so much as a frame of the show.
My God. Oh, my God in Heaven. Now I really want to see the whole thing.

Blake’s 7 was… was… God. It was… something special. I mean, by now, it’s almost pure schlock, but if you see past the cheese, there was actually something interesting underneath. Gotta keep in mind this thing was made in 1977-1981, by the BBC, so it didn’t have the whiz-bang that its American counterparts had but it certainly had content… well, as much as these things can have content.
I’m waxing nostalgic now. D’aw.
Remakes make me twitch, most of the time. I always end up pining for the original version.
Mucho dittos, Elenfair. I saw “Blake’s 7” on PBS in the mid-80s. I loved it. Still do.
Someone here on SDMB once said their personal motto was “What would Avon do?”. I liked that.
And who could possibly replace Paul Darrow as Avon? No, a remake just won’t come close to the cheesy goodness of the original.
Blake’s 7 may not look like much, but the writing in the early years was top notch. It did decline toward the end, and the changes they made in Servalan and Travis moved from fascinating to cliche (Why did they have to start dressing her in black? White was her color*).
But Avon and Vila were great characters, and the stories made the show work. The fact that the entire group was never going to win (other than small victories) gave it an interesting tone.
*Rule of thumb – the darker the color of her clothing, the less interesting she was.
I loved the programme, interesting characters and well written stories but bloody awful sets and special effects.
I just hope the new version isn’t good sets and SE but with two dimensional characters and tissue thin plots.
