Blasts from the past: Songs, movies, TV, whatever, that you haven't seen or heard in a while

The TV Shows Only You Remember thread has a lot of ‘blasts from the past’. Rather than remember obscure TV shows as in the other thread, let’s talk about things – songs, movies, TV shows, commercial jingles… anything – that we’ve recently been reminded of.

In my basement office, I can only receive Jazz (KNKX - Seattle). I’m not fond of Jazz, so I plugged the iPod into the clock radio. I think the newest songs on it are from 1996. Maybe 1997. And there are plenty of oldies; one of which is GPC by Third Wave Ska band Insatiable.

It’s about a guy going into a liquor store and asking for a pack of GPC cigarettes. He wants the pack in a sack, and he wants to pay for them with a $100 bill. (Note GPCs were about the cheapest cigarettes you could get in the '80s.)

I wondered whatever happened to GPC cigarettes, so I googled them. I found a page selling them for $28/carton. Who knew this quasi-generic brand would still be around after 30 years?

Once It thought of this I couldn’t get it off my mind.

It’s the Afternoon Delight of the 60’s. Try and not to play it again and again in your head after you hear it.

A while back a local station played a fine song that I hadn’t heard in over 30 years:

Based on the youtube comments, the reason it was familiar was because radio station WHFS had been one of the few to play it in 1986.

As a child, I remember my older sister listening to this song all the time. Back in the 90s, it took me years to figure out the artist. Just recently I was looking through a thumb drive full of MP3’s and rediscovered it.

I haven’t heard this one in a long time, until tonight. It might have been Nights With Alice (Cooper) on the radio. Yes, I still listen to the radio.
