Today I was told by EAP, “You are absolutely correct–you work in a place that is hostile and abusive. You have a case and you can cite policy. But until your probation period is up, any complaint you file can draw attention to you, and any attention drawn to you can equate to ‘difficult employee’ and difficult employees on probation can get fired without justification.”
Well, yeah. The probation period is as much to see if they’re right for you as it is to see if you’re right for them. If you feel that they’re not right for you during that time period, it’s better to just move on than to establish yourself as a troublemaker and think that they’re going to keep you. Sometimes things just don’t work out.
So much of it I love…and the part I don’t is pure torture. I wish I could start over.
I understand. But there are times when you have to just let it go, and this may be one of those times. You can’t litigate your way into fitting in somewhere. And you will probably land in a better place and be happier, anyway.
Yes. It’s quite complicated. And too much for a message board of strangers. That said I thank you for the support! I hope no one else has to ever hear those words the EAP said to me!
How much longer is the probation period?
End of August.
