Just picked this up on DVD yesterday. Eris, did I ever forget how funny this movie is. Brooks was a genius in this one.
God, now I gotta get Young Frankenstein! (rroll, rroll, rroll in ze hay)

One of those, either Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein, was the first movie I took the now Mrs. PlanMan to see. The other one was among the first few.
And she married me anyway.
She tolerates my watching MST3K - altho’ the repeats are coming a little frequently, even for me - that time travel airplane was on again this morning.
Although I love both of these movies, Mrs Infidel thinks their stupid and juvenile.
You gotta check out Rustler’s Rhapsody if you can find it. It’s my second favorite parody of westerns.

I could have sworn the title of this thread was Blazing Saddles-- veal. Maybe I need new glasses.
Anyway, Cafe Society is probably a better place for this thread, so I’ll move it.

I adore Blazing Saddles, and it’s held up remarkably well. Some of the topical jokes and “in references” have faded but overall it’s still a thorough hoot. I’m always suprised anew at how funny it is. It’s sooooo tempting to start quoting dialogue and bits of business but the so much of the movie is still so damned APT.
Young Frankenstein is less immediately quotable but it’s more polished gem. Brooks did it up right with the whole cinematic tribute/parody. It’s a fond, funny shit-grin of a movie. BTW, I really wanted to see Shreck but missed it while it was at the theaters. Huge Nosferatu fan; those spooky German Expressionists kicked ass, cinematically speaking. Triumph of the will grew out of some deep roots.

If only we all had such powers . . .

With power comes responsiblity. We routinely clean up anyone’s coding “whoopsies” as noted and time allows. It’s sorta diaper-patrol: accidents happen to everyone. See, there’s the problem with people posting rashly/drunk/mad whatever then editing out (weaseling out?) of what they wrote. Causes major clusterfuck action on the discussion level–ya dig?
If you want to make an issue of this, take it to ATMB or The Pit, depending on your slant and jive. In the meantime, the topic under discussion–and my post–regard movies. No harm, no foul and fair question…but it doesn’t belong here

No issue or question here. Just laughing longingly . . .

Cool.
And what I meant to say was, “regarded” movies.
Power might corrupt but first it makes one look absolutely ridiculous.
Bumbling off to herd eels,

Oh yeah, Rustler’s Rhapsody is a goodie. Berringer is great in that.
“You shoot them… in the hand*?*”
Veb, I gotta say that the ultimate joke in YF is the “Frau Bleucha” (or however it is spelled)… :neighing horse:
Veb…
Herding eels is easy…try herding cats.
Just the obligatory Snopes link.
This movie (which I love) keeps popping up on Fox Family Channel. This is no family movie, so I find that inexplicable, but it is a treat to run across it when I’m channel-surfing.
Tell me about it. It’s one of my favorite films, but my wife has never seen it. So she’s channel flipping one day and comes across it on the Fox Family Channel. I mention what a classic it is, so she starts watching. Only problem is that they have edited out all the humor, and the edits aren’t exctly clean either. There’s painfully hard breaks and skips where there used to be a joke. Trying to explain what was so gosh-darned funny about the Lily Von Schtupf song “I’m Tired” is tough when what appears on the screen bears no resemblance to the original.
Gotta get the DVD.
As has been said in other threads, why does Fox Family even bother? I surfed into it once on FoxFam right at the “Kansas City horses” line and kept right on surfing.
Gawd, I’m glad to see some other folks that love B.S. too. I don’t know how many times during a conversation I’ve snuck a quote in like “Work, work, work, work” or “It is? What? It is? What?” or “We almost lost a perfectly good handcart” and they look at me like I’ve got nary a marble. Thanks for humoring me.
When I once heard my boss[sup]3[/sup] (boss’s boss’s boss) use the “work, work, work, work, work, work, work” line, I said to him, “Well, hello Gov’nor LePetomaine!” To which he replied, “A governor’s job is never done.”
My favorite moment…
Frau Blucher: “Yes, Yes! Say it! He vas my boyfriend!”
Leaves me rolling every time.
