Blind Massage

I heard on NPR this morning that only blind people can become certified massueses in South Korea. Can any dopers tell me when and why this came about? Apparently the ‘sighted’ in South Korea are demonstrating and saying it’s discrimination.

From interesting reading, I found the Japanese implemented it in 1913, the US military government discontinued it in 1946. It was reimplemented in 1963. As for why, the articles all seem to be implying it was a method to allow those with a disability to still earn income.
