The new ‘Legendary Edition’ of Bloodbowl has been released. I downloaded it last night and it’s pretty good.
It’s great having all the teams in there. (except Chaos Dwarf). I like the fixes on the skills, and the graphics have been given a tweak, which I think is an improvement. Having weather effects is great, and carried off quite nicely I think.
The single player campaign has been given an interesting tweak. In the original you started off with equal 1,000 TV teams in the first tourney, and you would often outstrip your opponents within a game or two which led to easy wins a lot of the time. In the new edition, your opponents are often already semi-skilled teams. My first game with a newb Nurgle team was a 1,300 TV Woodie team. Ouch!
Definitely a major improvement, and with the discount for owning the prior version cost me <$30.
AI - I’m not sure. I think it may have been given some tweaks. It seemed to me to be a bit smarter. Although having said that there is still the occasional dumb set up or move, and it still doesn’t take advantage of blitz kick off results. So overall I’d say some minor improvements. At least the Woodies didn’t try and cage it up, which I’ve seen them do before
I downloaded it direct from Cyanide. When you go to the pruchase page you have the option of entering your Player/Rego Key from your previous version of the game (both the original & Dark Elf expansion works) and that then applies the discount.
Somewhat. They’re a bit more aggressive, and I have seen the AI take advantage of Blitz kick-off returns (but not every time, which is strange). The AI still takes too many silly dodges, and really does not understand the idea of the last turn of the half or game.
I love playing Nurgle, even if it’s an incredibly frustrating experience. They really, really suck early on, but then you get one of those turns where your Beast manages to stop 4 elves from moving with his Tentacles and then the enemy Thrower fumbles because you had 3 Disturbing Presences on him, and it’s all worth while. I also like the Elf team, even though the general opinion seems to be that they’re the worst of the elf teams…but they have awesome facemasks.
Also, if you were a fan of the Next Wave mod from the original game, the creator has put out a beta version for the LE. Lots of new teams, new campaign structure, better AI.
