BLT's for Breakfast???

BLT’s for breakfast are fantastic! Tell the guy at work he’s nuts.

Just about anything can be breakfast food. Just don’t go and do something blasphemous like having cereal for dinner! Now that’s going too far!

I’ve eaten the cold pizza breakfast on many occasions. My sister takes the cold, leftover pasta route.

I have never had a BLT for breakfast – that actually sounds really good (especially with the swiss) . hhmmm BLT w/ swiss on whole wheat hold the mayo. I think I know what I’m having for breakfast tomorrow

Uhm… what’s a BLT?

All I’ve been able to deduce from the posts above is that it includes lettuce. And, apparently, cheese.

Bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. Cheese is not traditional.

I eat bacon sandwiches for breakfast all the time. I have also been known to prepare dinner with extra leftovers in mind for breakfast–pizza, chicken, enchiladas–it’s all good.

Bacon-Lettuce-Tomato sandwich. . .one of God’s great creations.

I don’t see anything weird about that…sandwiches for breakfast were pretty normal for me growing up. (Although the whole bottle of mustard and mayo is kinda odd). I grew up in a Polish household, so a standard breakfast would be open faced sandwiches made with an assortment of cold cuts, perhaps some smoked sausages, boiled white sausages (a la the German weisswurst). Personally, I hate anything sweet for breakfast like pancakes or waffles.

Umm I don’ t know about in the States but up here in Canada even McDonalds has a BLT bagel in the breakfast menu.

But I don’t recommend ordering one from Tim Hortons. Even though they have all of the ingredients, they get really confused and have to call the manager, who quickly pushes a few buttons and all is well. It is time consuming (while they track down the manager) but so much better than a doughnut for breakfast.

Wow - I was raised believing BLTs were a breakfast food, or maybe brunch. If anyone ever made a BLT for supper, my Mom would say, “Oh, I just love having breakfast for supper sometimes!”

It was often one of those “weekend” treats, or for days that you had a little extra time to make something good instead of those mornings where you just had no energy and ate a bowl of cereal, or grabbed a bagel or fruit - it was a “treat” like bacon and eggs, or french toast - but it was* always * considered breakfast in my home.

And a damn good breakfast it was!

Through my childhood I rarely ate anything but cereal for breakfast, but in recent years I’ve had everything from crumb cake to creamed chipped beef for my first meal of the day. This past weekend I ate Caesar salad with grilled chicken at 10 AM. It’s all good. Certainly a BLT is a lot better than nothing, which is too many people’s idea of breakfast.

I can’t imagine your office neighbor knows much about the history of cuisine. I just finished a Dickens novel in which someone ate mutton chops for breakfast. Other perfectly acceptable breakfasts at different times and places have included hash, fried potatoes, bean soup, smoked fish, kidneys, meat pie, fruit pie, and hot buttered beer. Whatever you can face first thing in the AM that isn’t too unhealthy is probably your best breakfast choice.

I had a BLT for breakfast just yesterday. It was lunchtime, but I had slept in, so it was breakfast to me.

John Thorne has a good essay on why people tend to be most conservative about their breakfast food. It used to be online, but you can read it in Pot on the Fire. His thesis is that when people wake up, they want something familiar and soothing to eat.

BLTs sound like fine breakfast food to me.

You know, I was going to come in here and extol the virtues of the BL.
Maybe the BLBBBBBBBBB. Them’s be good, too.

BLTs usuallly have toasted white bread and mayonaisse as their base, and then some lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and bacon. The more bacon, the better the sandwich is.

I have been known to eat tomato sandwiches for breakfast, if I have good tomatoes. Bad tomatoes just aren’t worth eating.

I like having BLT for breakfast or anytime. In fact I am not much on any of the more traditional breakfast foods like eggs and sausage because I am often queasy in the morning. I don’t eat cold cereals because they aren’t filling or lasting and I dont’ like milk at all. A BLT is a little fiber, a little protein, some healthy veggie stuff and in the summer with home grown tomatoes is quite likely the most perfect food I have ever eaten.

I use toasted high fiber whole grain bread, Hellman’s mayonaise. at least 3 slices of turkey bacon, two thick slices of tomatoes and 2 leaves of lettuce. Dang, I am hungry for one now.

My sister’s favorite breakfast used to be “a blit and a grit.” I love BLTs, and I love grits, but not together.

And I think BLTs are awesome for breakfast (lunch, dinner, midnight snacks, you probably get the picture).

I also like chicken salad sandwiches, tuna sandwiches, or egg salad sandwiches for breakfast. They’re fast, portable, and tasty.

Try having a grilled chicken, bacon, and cheddar sandwich on a kaiser with lettuce and mayo.

So bad, and yet, so good… sigh

Mmmm… homemade pumpkin pie for breakfast. You got your protein (eggs) and your vegetable (or is it a fruit?). Healthy!

One of the local coffee shops / resturants has BLTs on the breakfast menu. Specifically.

I don’t see a problem with BLT’s for breakfast, I’m sure I’ve done that before. Bacon and toast are traditional breakfast foods so it’s not a big stretch. I also like grilled cheese sandwiches for breakfast.

This is sometimes what we have for breakfast after Thanksgiving or Christmas. Pumpkin is technically a fruit. Remember digging out all those seeds? Anyway, I love pumpkin pie with a nice cold glass of milk, or hot tea or coffee, at any time of the day.
