Blue-Eyed Soul playlist.

No other Michael McDonald fans?

This link leads back to this thread.

This link takes me to a download page and not a song. Also, is this the Tracey Nelson of the famous Nelson family?

I thought I added him to the list but now I see it was the Doobie Brothers and not Michael. Still, I think he’ll be best represented with What A Fool Believes.

We have a very different idea of “Blue Eyed Soul” - Janis is a blues shouter, a wonderful example. Blue eyed soul is more about vocal dexterity and smoothness, in songs that often have horn arrangements.

Paulo Nutini is a good choice. Lisa Stansfield.

Hey, Biggirl - how about some of the New Romantic stuff from the UK? Rick Astley has been mentioned; what about When Smokey Sings by ABC or some of their other hits?

I’ll admit that this is probably not what the OP is looking for, but how could I not post this?

Wilco - Blue Eyed Soul

Sorry, here you go. No, she’s not related to Tracey of the Nelson family.

Oh my, When Smokey Sings is such a '80s song. It is so much more New Wave than soul. We get those sweet horns and then, BAM, synth trills and tinkley electronic keyboarding.

Oh, hell yeah. Reminds me of Dusty Springfield.

Listened to a bunch of Tracey Nelson and got a suggestion for another list maker, Amy Whinehouse Gonna go for the lesser played You Know I’m No Good.

Ooh, ooh-- this reminds me of another English singer. She likes to be barefoot. Jessie or Jessica. . . help me out here!

Changing the Whinehouse song to Back To Black.

You mentioned Soul Blues earlier and I think some of Lonnie’s stuff fits that category at least. He has recorded a wide variety of styles over the years, including country, gospel, bluegrass, roadhouse rock and blues. Where There’s a Will There’s a Way has a strong gospel feel to me.

I get what you’re saying, it may not be straight-up Soul music and so it won’t make your list, but his vocals on the songs I listed are very soulful to me. I would call Falling Back In Love With You soul music before I’d call it blues.

And as Lonnie himself said, “Hell, it’s all gut music, it all comes from the same place. If George Jones ain’t a soul singer, I’ll kiss your ass!”

Yep, that’s why I asked.

I don’t know if I would call Ray LaMontagne Blue-Eyed Soul because his voice is not smooth. He’s like a less spastic Joe Cocker, though - great R&B. And great horns.

Oh, an obvious one - Eli Paperboy Reed: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vy6q9HfsJmo

Now, that’s some blue-eyed soul.

St. Paul and the Broken Bones - Call Me

On the list!

I loved Ray. And Eli sure has the voice.

yeah, I posted what a fool believes

Hubby helped me out with this. Joss Stone was who I was thinking about.

Oops, missed that.

I see what you mean. I know Janis is known for being a screamer but not always; Listento A Woman Left Lonely and see if she isn’t a little smoother than you thought.

Anyhow this is a great thread and I’m seeing a lot of newer stuff that I’ve missed.

My favorite song by a white dude by far. They Don’t Know by Jon B.

I also like this one he did with Babyface. They’re both were pretty popular so I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re somewhat familiar though.
