For sure he fits right into The Quiet Storm radio format. Hubby will absolutely love this. Me, I’m a little more old fashioned. There is no doubt he’s very soulful and deserves a place on the list. This would probably be one of those songs I skip, though. Cuz I’m an old fuddy-duddy.
I like my blue-eyed soul in its evolved British 80s/90s form of sophisti-pop. Swing Out Sister, Danny Wilson, Deacon Blue, Prefab Sprout, that kind of thing. The previously-mentioned ABC, too.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned that Paul Young hit from the '80s - “Every Time You Go Away”. I haven’t heard anything else he’s done, but that song surely qualified for this category.

Two from Robert Palmer. He always his the island/Nawlins influence running through his music, largely because those are the musicians he used to back him. But the guy was the epitome of cool and soulful, southern version.

Admittedly it was tough to find a slowed-down number from Mitch Ryder and the boys, but this is as close as I can get. About as funky as white boys get.
Soul has a much slower groove but Mitch’s Devil With Miss Molly’s Blue Dress is closer to what I’m looking for.
Beck:“Debra”.
How about Laura Nyro?

I suspect if we can’t have Simply Red, we can’t have Paul Young, either.
Missed the edit window above.
Ditto. I was thinking of the Blow Monkeys “Digging Your Scene”, but again, probably too synth-y for purists.
Simply Red made the list. I think I’ll add Holding Back The Years. ABC, as I said, too New Wave.
I’m the first to mention The (Young) Rascals?
Good grief, how am I the first person to mention George Michael (“One More Try,” “Father Figure”)*** and ***Joan Osborne (“Heart of Stone,” with a playlist)?
The Young Rascals are in with Good Lovin’. Joan Osbourn was mentioned early in the thread. She has a version of What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted. I’d link to it but that’s too hard on the Kindle.
I see I missed a few. I’ll check them out later as I have to go live my life in the meat world. But here is Joan Osborne’s What Becomes of the Brokenhearted as promised.
Oh, I see. I forgot that she was mentioned alongside Janis. Well, I don’t consider Joan Osborne to be a “blues shouter,” either.
Duffy, Mercy
Nikka Costa, Everybody Got Their Something
What’s the opposite of Blue-Eyed Soul? Brown-Eyed Rock? Lenny Kravitz or Corrine Rae Baily, maybe?
Mother’s Finest Niggizz Can’t Sang Rock and Roll
Crazy, doofy-assed Scientologist channeling Prince. I love it!
She reminds me a bit of Pat Boone. Or Lawrence Welk doing Motown.
