Blue Monitor Tint Problem

On our newest computer, used by my wife and the kids exclusively, there has occurred an unusual event. Everything is appearing on the flat screen monitor is now tinted Metallic Blue. Yes, thats right. Its like putting on your new cool blue sunglasses before computing.

*There is some color, but the blue over-washes it for the most part.

*The external manual settings on the monitor are at normal.

*Its Windows VISTA. (Yes, I told her not to, but she insisted she was right. Sigh.)

*The Control Panel monitor color controls seem completely preset, so nothing seems to affect this.
Q1: What am I overlooking in trouble-shooting this bug?

Q2: Could this be a manufacturers warranty issue?

Please hurry. I’m already fending the kids away from my computer because the want to play ‘Pirates of the Caribbean Online’.

Damn You, Johnny Depp! Damn You To Hell!!!

Check the color temperature settings on your monitor. It’s probably set wrong; mine let’s me set it to 9300K (blue tint) or 6500K (warm tint) or custom. Yours is probably in the 9300K range.

Other possible options are a bad VGA cable, if you’re running analog not digital. Or the monitor is just defective. You can test this by swapping the monitor and/or monitor cable with another one from one of your other computers.

I was told that “…reds and greens are just gone from the palette.” by my wife who won’t let me near it.

Sound like a cable to me. The VGA cable delivers RGB, and you’re just getting B. Or the monitor is just not built correctly, and the disconnect is internal.

It could just be a loose VGA cable. I’d tighten it before I replaced it. (And is there an onscreen menu for the monitor? If so, does it look OK?)
