My co-worker just showed this to me, and I don’t know how safe this car would be, but it certainly does look very cool IMO. I love the way it can ‘morph’ itself to create headrests, or a spoiler, etc. And the way you access the engine is pretty neat too.
Just a thought, but if this concept is produceable, it would be interesting to see it applied to the low end of the market. Manufacturing a cloth skin must be much cheaper than using metal, and the loss of weight would increase fuel economy. Better still, imagine what it would look like to use the shape-shifting ability for, say, increasing luggage capacity, instead of for style.
Now, I’ll grant that there are some pretty serious hurdles to practicality (cleaning, durability, making an enclosed car, etc.), but it would be worth further investigation.
The GINA looks awfully spiffy, BTW. On the other hand, it’s really just an Ariel Atom that’s crashed through a Hobby Lobby.
