So I’m kind of curious if anyone here is aware of this dude. I couldn’t sleep tonight and caught a Comedy central show that just ended, and I have to say it was one of the most intriguing things I have seen in years. For Comedy I have to say
I never really laughed out loud, but I just kind of watched the show in stunned amazement. I thought it was just more clever and intelligent than most anything I have seen lately. I don’t expect that his act will ever become really popular, but I wondered know if anyone knew of him, and what your opinion is. Is it too gimmicky, or knowing mimicry making a point?
I love Bo Burnham, and I was also impressed by the performance of which you speak. He actually has a new comedy special out (it’s on Netflix Instant, I can’t recall the name) that I haven’t watched yet, but it does seem as if he struck a chord with many people. He definitely strikes me as incredibly gifted, and there is a thoughtful undertone to a lot of his songs. Normally I don’t like musical comedy, but his works for me.
My favorite line is still his opening one: ‘‘Don’t worry, I’m hilarious.’’
Yeah, that was a great way to break the ice as you could sense everyone in the audience sitting there thinking, “Who is this 16 year old?” Then going straight into “My Whole Family Thinks I’m Gay.” Awesome.
I saw his special on Netflix and thought it was excellent. He is one talented dude. I busted a gut when he decides to act like a “normal comic” and tells the following joke:
“What do you call a kid with no arms and an eye patch?”
Names!
Then he throws confetti on the crowd.
I caught his stand up on On Demand while browsing through one day and he quickly became one of my favorites. I can definitely connect with his Catholic background. Even besides that, his wordplay, rhyming, and rapping is flat out awesome. Mixes in genuine questions with comedy, it’s the kind of comedy that’s right up my alley. Gotta toss out thisgem.
I think this kid’s really funny. I saw his newest stand-up (Words, Words, Words) on Netflix. He’s got a very weird style, but he’s very clever and self-deprecating and catches the audience off guard a lot. Some of my favorite moments are when half of them totally don’t get the joke. I don’t know if I would call it stand-up exactly. More of a performance piece?
I’ve mentioned him a couple of times and he’s popped up in other threads. Rundown. He’s extremely impressive in the way he weaves high-brow/low brow.
“I hate catchy choruses and I’m a hypocrite…”
He has a couple of movies out, one of which he wrote the musical numbers for as a sort of anti, or at least more realistic, High School Musical.
I always liked High School Party.
My favorite song is probably Love Is.
