Heard of any new stand-up comedians?

I’m in the mood to laugh. I won’t say who I like already because I don’t want to limit the results. Who makes you laugh on Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, cable, whatever.

I don’t know if you mean since Carlin or Pryor or Lenny Bruce but I’ll just start posting.

Louis CK
Anthony Jeselnik
Amy Schumer
Joe Rogan
Doug Benson
Joey Diaz (POWERFUL, JOEY DIAZ)
Aziz Anzari
Donald Glover
Bill Burr
Jimmy Norton
Ralphie May
Ari Shaffir
Duncan Trussell
Daniel Tosh
Bert Kreisher
Sarah Silverman
Zach Galifianakis
Patrice O’Neil (might have butchered the spelling. Sorry dawg. RIP)

there’s at least 30 hours worth of material right there, so have fun.

My current personal favorites are Danny Bhoy and Russell Peters

Donald Glover

The one who has come onto my radar recently (thanks to Charlie Brooker) is Doug Stanhope.

drunk and funny, what’s not to love?

Louis C.K. and Bill Burr. Goddamn they are hilarious. I’ve been on a constant kick of watching both of their specials on Netflix.

Jim Jefferies.

He’s been around for a few years but he’s still not quite a household name: Nate Bargatze

An older bit that’s one of his better ones is this one about a ninja.

How could I forget? Stanhope is soooo amazing.

No Refunds is amazing and its on Netflix but if you can (illegally) download Before Turning the Gun on Himself…HOLE-EE-SHIT. It is fucking genius. Its poignant, true, and hilarious as shit all the way through. Its probably the greatest piece of comedy he’s put out and the best stand up DVD in a long time. Make sure you get video of it though because one of his final bits is almost all visual to drive the joke home and it doesn’t work if you don’t have video.

I’m a big fan of Kyle Kinane.

Who do you already like?
I think Katt Williams is very funny, but I recommend him with reservation because every third word is the N word.

Louis C.K. is probably my current favorite, but my best friend can’t abide him saying he’s too coarse. Actually he’s tied for first place with Patton Oswalt.

If you don’t mind a little frank talk about sex, you might enjoy Debra DiGiovanni. She’s a full figured female and talks a lot about that. If that’s not your thing then skip it.

There also seems to be a new special on Netflix from Brian Posehn. I’d put him in this same “I find him very funny but won’t recommend this to my mom or watch it with my kid” category

Now, my kid’s fifteen and I don’t him being exposed to some blue language or jokes about the dog watching you have sex so we do watch some comedy. When I say these next folks are more “family friendly” I don’t mean they’re PG or even PG-13. But when I was his age I was watching George Carlin and Andrew Dice Clay on HBO and lived to tell the tale.

Kathleen Madigan
Brian Regan
Demetri Martin
Jim Gaffigan
Young & Handsome: An evening with Jeff Garlin makes me laugh.
Sebastian Maniscalco
Anjelah Johnson: That’s How We Do It
John Caparulo: Meet Cap
Jake Johannsen
Mike Birbiglia
Steve Byrne
Gabriel Iglesias

On Netflix I like to grab comedy in small doses watching things like The Kings of Comedy, The Queens of Comedy, John Oliver’s Stand-Up show. I was sad the day they stopped streaming Comedy Central Presents.

some folks I like a lot who I’m pretty sure aren’t suited to everyone’s taste, or I have to be in the right mood to watch: Eddie Izzard, Stephen Lynch, Lewis Black, Kathy Griffin.

I’ll second Bill Burr. Someone who is starting to grow on me is Anthony Jesilnek (sp?). I think he has a new show on Comedy Central so he shouldn’t be too hard to fine. Sorry, link any videos at work.

Last week I stumbled across a Comedy Central special by John Mulaney. I’d never heard of him, but it was the best standup I’ve seen in years – very funny, and very polished.

I listen to Bill Burr’s Monday morning podcast every week. If you are a big fan you might like it. It is not necessarily funny and he is not all that good at podcasting but I love it none the less and it is endearing.

Yeah, he comes on after Colbert a couple nights a week. I saw his first show, and it was pretty good. In one segment, he and his guests were doing a talk show, and he said, and now it’s time for our weekly feature, Latin Voices. And everyone began talking in a horrible Spanish accent.

Mike O’Connell
Here he is performing at Write Club.
Write Club is a show that pits two writers against each other each to advocate for one of two competing ideas. For this show it was “Stage vs. Screen”. Mike O’Connell argues in favor of Screen.

Here he is in a more traditional Stand-Up Comedy venue.

Here’s an animation of one of his comedy songs.

Here his is at an event featuring essayist reading for an audience.
