of all-time, living or dead
Why did you drop Doug Stanhope down a notch? Less than a month ago you had him at number 7.
Rodney Dangerfield first and everyone else a distant second.
Oh shit. I’m sorry for re-posting this. But I’m sure there are many new users who might contribute.
I don’t know why, maybe it was because his last special was the first one that didn’t reach his potential, and when I saw him live recently, it was all a big re-hash.
Doug Stanhope is only funny once in awhile. I get tired of his drunk-depressed-cynical act. George Carlin was a cultural grump who had 10x the intelligence and insight as Stanhope. I never get tired of George’s “I’m angry and here is what is wrong with all you people” act. Stanhope’s routine/style gets tiresome.
I say this as someone who still kind of respects Stanhope. He’s been around a pretty long time now and I do get the appeal on some level. I just think he is kind of overrated. He has huge fans for reason I can not understand.

Eddie Izzard
Jack Benny
Steve Martin
George Carlin
Richard Pryor
Emo Philips
Judy Tenuta
Bill Cosby
Mike Birbiglia. I especially like “My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend” which was on Netflix at one point.
