Board Speed?

Has anyone else had my experience that the MB drove through a molasses puddle early this afternoon and has not yet pulled free?

I like a lot of the new features (and the MB has not yet crashed), but it seems as though the speed/response time issue may not be resolved, yet.

This is not a “Why did we bother?” rant. I just figured that I ought to mention the experience. I have popped out to some other UBB boards and some NewsGroups this afternoon. This is the only site that seems slow. (With any luck, it is only an issue on my 'puter and the rest of you are having a good time racing around.)

I’ve been playing around all afternoon here, and it seems to be as fast as I ever remember it getting. I also like that I haven’t had to use the refresh button to see new posts.

I noticed a little slowness aroung 1:30 (ET), but the problem passed and now it’s working fine for me.

I actually had the entire board slow down to the point that the only thing that loaded was the Reader ad. This happened around 2:30-3:00 EDT. It was a bit slow to load the main forums page this time, but after that it’s worked just fine.

I’m going to have to DL Netscape 6.0, though. The board looked fine using IE, but there’s a bunch of blank space at the end of the column with the last post when I use Netscape, which squishes all the other columns. I use IE at work, and Netscape at home.

So far, the board has moved like greased lightning to me.

I should mention, when I had my slowdown problems, I was at work on a T1 connection, and all other sites were loading just fine.

Wow, when you guys said there would be changes, you weren’t kidding!

“Slower” is relative. --than molasses in January? Possibly. --than a schoolboy creeping snail-like to school? Definitely. --than the check that is “in the mail”? Positively. --than it was before? Hard to tell, but yes, I think so. My family finds it very amusing the way I holler, “come on, come ON!” at a COMPUTER, for heaven’s sake. I also sometimes mutter bitterly, “…chug, chug, chug…” at it, but for some reason they don’t find this nearly as amusing.

I also enjoy the way it hangs up right at about 98% sometimes. Sometimes I can push it over the edge to 100% by clicking on Favorites or Search, which in IE5 opens up a window to the left.

I do notice that it definitely loads slower when I just thought of something really hot and nifty to throw at someone. At times like that, I find it helps to open a second window and do something else while the SD is loading. Reading the Encyclopedia Britannica is very relaxing. I’m learning a lot about “Art”.
