Bob Newhart on NCIS 1/18

Bob Newhart guess starred on NCIS. He was wonderful. They had to include a telephone call, his trademark!

Hmmm. Almost makes me sorry I gave up on that show a season or two back. Is it on Hulu?

No idea if it’s on Hulu, but for a couple of weeks (or until there’s a couple of newer episodes), it will be available on the CBS website.

That’s how I watch episodes when fate conspires against recording them properly.

His portrayal of a Medical Examiner with Alzheimer’s was excellent.

I like Bob, and his inclusion was okay, but the show has lost something this season. Where’s the energy, the interplay within the ensemble? I don’t care so much about the crimes- I want to feel the buzz of the team in action.

my daughter is an NCIS fan (I find it a pretty run of the mill show) so we watched last night - and the OP is right, Bob Newhart is wonderful. and David McCallum’s scenes with him were so good

Am I the only one who thought the whole thing was ridiculous? It felt like Bob called up the producers and said “I want to be on NCIS,” and they didn’t know what to do with him, but figured they couldn’t say no to Bob Newhart.

Sentimental, over-done hogwash. If I wanted that crap I’d watch re-runs of “Touched by an Angel.”

Ridiculous is a little strong, but I was underwhelmed by the whole Bob Newhart bit–wasn’t sure I liked the storyline, and don’t know Newhart well enough to be impressed/intrigued by his presence.

I caught up with it on my cable’s On Demand service. It was good to see Bob Newheart, but distressing to realize he is 81. Still, he gave a very good performance, he can do drama as well as comedy. I know that the stammer is part of Bob’s style, but his age made it seem more pronounced and possibly more endearing. I can see how Magnus and Ducky are such kindred spirits.

Having Bob Newhart on the show was fun, but it was hard to tell if he was acting like he had Alzheimer’s, or if he actually has Alzheimer’s or something. If it turns out his mental faculties are completely unimpaired, then I guess he did a pretty good job acting, because I felt a little uncomfortable watching him.

I don’t know if this season is missing something, or if they’re just being a little weird, which isn’t unprecedented on this show.

“The wheels on the bus go round and round…” How funny was that, with Gibbs singing along?

Was the episode cobbled together very recently? They obviously had a strong, timely message to send, especially how pro-rah-rah-hooyah the show is about the military. They’ve had gay characters before, but I think this is the first time Gibbs has stated clearly that were his son gay and interested in the military, as a father he’d wish him luck and be there for him - and then was there for the young guy. I’d bet big money that a lot of parents are going to become concerned the military has become some homosexual recruitment scheme or something.

Not sure if the episode the other night got its own thread or not, but the one with the murder witness who was an only child raised by a pair of psychologists was funny. Making Palmer cry was maybe a little much, but still got a laugh out of me.

It’s called “Emmy-sucking”.

Dollars to donuts, Bob Newhart is nominated for this performance for a Prime Time Emmy in 2012.

Cartooniverse

Ah I knew there was something absurd about it. It was so forced, and completely irrelevant to any character development and story.

I doubt that an actual Alzheimer’s sufferer could pull off an acting performance at all. I thought Bob was wonderful. And I just knew the telephone scene had to be coming up.
