Bob Seger's "Night Moves"

Heh - no love for Juan Atkins? Jeff Mills?

Mentioned earlier in the thread - “We Got Tonight” - curious if anyone actually actively dislikes it.

People keep bring up “Old Time Rock and Roll”, and other Seger rockers. Meh. But, have none of you heard “Rock and Roll Never Forgets”, “Sunspot Baby”, or the absolutely killer “The Fire Down Below”, from the Night Moves album? Hey, the same people may not like these either, but in my opinion you have to judge him on his best material (and the amazing performances of the Silver Bullet Band on these songs), and these three are at the top of the list.

Okay, but I’m not sure what this has to do with money buying happiness.

You know that dramatic bah bah bum right after he sings still here we are? I got high in ninth grade one time with a friend and we played just that bit about fifty times in a row. I guess it’s okay.

I’m think I know it, but I can’t remember it right now. Checking it out now. Be back soon with a report.

You must have been really high. Oh, I hear it, but it’s not all that memorable to me.

I like Seeger, but not enough to own any of his albums. However, “We Got Tonight” is one that annoys me. The melody is good, but it’s basically in service of this message: “Look at them fuzzy stars darling… how about you show me your tits?”

Songs that can be interpreted to be the narrator “bragging” or wanting/having sex with a girl are pretty big staples in rock songs- just in case some of you aren’t familiar with rock music.

It was the most popular musical style in the mid-60s and 70s and a bit beyond… right?

To me, the song tries to elevate a basic come-on into a great, weary, poetic experience. It does so without humor. I don’t buy it. I generally don’t buy the concept of poetic sex.

I did, and even though I wouldn’t say I’m a fan, it was a ton of fun. The Forum was rockin’.

Save me a seat. I fucking HATE that song.

He’s the most overrated underrated singer I’ve ever encountered.

“Night Moves” isn’t quite in the “Layla” and “Stairway To Heaven” class, but it’s close. :smack:

Wow. What a depressing video.

Regarding Matt Leblanc in the Night Moves video… I had to do a double take, as it looked like the girl in there was Monica Lewenski!

While not as common (or maybe more common) in rock music are songs about a guy getting “done wrong” by a woman. You know, like “Sunspot Baby”, a really good rock song from Bob Seger’s Night Moves album. Say, has anyone heard this, or a few others from that album?
