I heartily endorse the Hell’s Angels interpretation mentioned earlier.
No joke. The POS probably missed her because he was too damn lazy to get his own beer, the fucker.
If he laughed when she almost hurt herself, he probably shrieked with joy when the angels came.
Although, I suspect she engineered some sort of “Living With the Enemy” escape, and some of the neighbors, who’d realized what a bastard he was, told him “the angels came and took her away.” Honey wasn’t the one who was a simpleton.
Barely related: In 1969, I got a poster that had a black background, and green house (neon/blacklight paint) that was sort of a strange picture of a face and a tree and a house all as one element. It was called “The House Where Honey Lived”. Kinda creepy, and I loved it!
ETA: Found it! I loves me some google! http://www.ebay.com/itm/HOUSE-WHERE-HONEY-LIVED-BLACK-LIGHT-COUNTER-CULTURE-POSTER-1972/301268193371?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D24641%26meid%3D48dc10cbce8447c9a41788bc3fe30bdc%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D10413%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D291201819795#ht_22wt_1362
Pretty cool for a 12 year-old kid in the 60s.
Out of sight! I had actually done an image search looking for that very thing and you found it before I could post to say I had had no such luck!
That’s one fine poster! Makes me wonder how many similar ones there must be “illustrating” songs of the day…
It makes ME wonder how many people on this board would remember that poster!
Of course, OTOH, the cocksucker could have murdered her, himself. It seems like something that somebody as heartless as he would pull. He seems a bit like Shakespeare’s actress who doth protest too much: “Of course, while I was away, the angels came and took her…” Of course, he can’t establish where he had been, only 'I was not at home".
And, the old depression bit could totally put about by him, in his drug fueled frenzy of looking for to take the blame away from himself. “I came home and she was crying for no reason!” “She almost slipped…AND HURT HERSELF!” “Then, when it was freezing, she went outside to brush snow off of a tree!” This son of a bitch has so many stories, that it should be easy for a blind man to see.
Nope. If you’re looking for the killer, you only have to look for Bobby Goldsboro.
Amen to all that! Ought to be easier to prove than OJ!
FWIW, your description just sounded too cool not to check out, but I never saw that poster before. Maybe others have, though, and it would be fun to hear other accounts.
I wonder if Bobby reads SDMB and has a posse ready…
Then again, the blame may lie with the songwriter and not Bobby. “Oh, what a tangled web we weave…” (see the link I posted at Yesterday 08:44 AM).
lol!
Little known fact: She was a groupie from Mississippi, known as Tupelo Honey.
Continuing the sapfest:
After Honey was gone, Bobby thought Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue?
Later, at the gravesite, it started precipitating (of course), so he had Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain
After years of mistreatment, Honey told Bobby she’d been thinking of ending it and realized there must be 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover,
to which he sang out Honey Don’t!
In addition to Honey and Light Went Out In Georgia, Russell also wrote this lovely ear worm song.
Honey was in reality a seasoned LAPD Lieutenant who was recruited by the Townsend Agency to be the real brains behind the operation. Charlie was just a front man.
So what happened to the dog? That puppy.
Cujo?
Lives at a “farm” now.
Not having followed the thread close enough, I thought you meant Leon Russell wrote Honey. I thought
I think he would do a great cover of it. I can just hear it now.

I’ll see your proposed Leon Russell of “Honey” and raise you a proposed Tom Waits cover of “Honey”.
Okay, I could start Kickstarter to bribe… errr entice Waits into doing that!
Two words. Leonard Cohen.
If we’re going that way: Louis Armstrong!
I have never seen that poster before but it is Addams Family spooky. Thanks for the link.
