What did Honey die of?

In the song Honey by Bob Goldsboro, what did Honey die of?

I was wondering the same thing. I’m guessing heart attack.

I’m guessing that if I had Bobby Goldsboro serenading me with saccharine dreck, I’d kill myself.

Poopah beat me to it. I was going to say given her name and the saccharine nature of the song, my guess is that hyperglycemia done her in.

Obliagatory Dave Barry mention (somewhere on the page)

The song give absolutely no clues. She just died.

As Dave Barry has pointed out in the “Book of Bad Songs,” Honey is vastly improved by assuming that the angels that came for her were Hell’s Angels.

Honey did not die.

She had always wanted to get into show business. The lyric is full of references to this.

The first indication comes when Bobby Goldsboro has been working late and comes home to find Honey crying after watching a late show on the TV. Her tears were caused by the frustration of being trapped in a cloying domestic environment when her true calling was the stage.

Wrecking the car happened during her first attempt to escape from Goldsboro’s clutches. She managed to cover up the escape bid with a show of feigned emotion which completely fooled Goldsboro.

Then he comes back from work to find her crying again, and the next thing that happens is that Angels, as in the financial backers of the play she is due to star in on Broadway, come to give her a lift to New York and fame and fortune.

Goldsboro then points out that his life is now an empty stage because the play acting he and Honey used to practice together has been brought to a necessary halt.

He also keeps saying that he would like to join her if he could, but his acting abilities are not strong enough to furnish the necessary wherewithal for an extended career on Broadway.

To sum up, Goldsboro was a bad actor who couldn’t sing. His career was on the wane when he met Honey, who had star material written all over her. She left him to realise her dream.

The song was made into a movie called ‘A Star Is Born’.

I was thinking suicide because she was crying so much.
