Bodega Cats!

The first is my favorite.

There are some great shots here. I rather like A-rod, sitting on a 12-pack of beer.

Perhaps it should be a law that every bodega have a cat.

We have two cats that live in our office. Having them nap on your desk can be a welcome distraction, and picking one up and petting it can be relaxing too.

However, I find that being able to say “You’re such a dumbass” in the workplace is very relieving. The cats are often dumbasses. One of them plays fetch too, just like a dog.

Sheesh, I thought this thread would be a hit. Cats, pictures, food, beer. It had all the makings …

That’s not a cat. That’s El Gato.

Kitties!

I wish we had bodegas (with cats, of course) here, so I could shop at them.

But we don’t. We have some Mexican grocery stores, but they don’t have cats. :frowning:

People who like this sort of thing will find shopcat.com the sort of thing they will like. A tribute to the world’s working kitties.

I certainly prefer shopping at a shop with a shop cat. I get our cat food from a store that has two shop cats. Parking there is a lot harder than it would be if I went to Petco, but KITTIES! One of them purrs when I pet him.

I wanna know exactly where the bodega with the cat in #19, “near Grand Central”, is. I fly through JFK and get a train at Grand Central when I go to visit my sister in CT. I would love to be able to stop at a bodega with a cat that lets people pick it up…

Our old fruit store/ 24hr convenience Korean shop has a grey and white shop cat named Nabi. She’s very friendly. They have a box for her on top of the security monitors, and I’ve seen the stockboys playing “string” with her. If you kneel down to pet her, she’ll put a paw on your arm, and if there are no objections, jump right into your arms. So cute!

She is also called “Nabi” (“butterfly”) like one of the cats in the slide show. I believe that there might have been a well known cartoon cat in Korea of the same name. Sort of like “Sylvester” or “Garfield” as a cat name would be kind of obvious for a black/white or orange tabby, respectively.

ETA: I told my husband to submit a pic to Gothamist! He’s taken many a photo of Nabi at work. We’ll see.

Several of those black and white kitties look like my Kato. I wonder if he has been moonlighting?

Ooh, I love this! My very first experience with a business with a cat on the premises was at a hotel we stayed at just last month. An older, gray cat just OWNED the place; the owners said she just showed up one day, soon after they opened, and has never really left.

The Ace Hardware store in town has a 19 year old shop cat. I wonder if that’s a record.

I was thinking of buying a cat bed once in a pet store and said I don’t know if my cat will sleep in it. The owner said “Brownie, come here” and the shop cat leaped up on the counter, curled up in the bed and fell asleep. Of course I bought it, and my cat Rocky slept in it for several years.

My computer whiz has a shop cat. His wife found her out behind the shop. Naturally, her name is Alley. She can be standoffish, but all agree that when people come in panicked about non-working computer, she calms them right down.
