Bohemian Rhapsody: The Movie

Here’s the trailer:

It looks good -- I think they got the look of the characters down. I am interested in seeing this and I also think that Freddie Mercury and Queen are worthy of a movie.

Someone left that trailer in a car for more than about a fortnight.

And I thought from the title the movie would BE Bohemian Rhapsody. A 2 hour and 30 minute adaptation of the lyrics, about a tortured soul contemplating suicide after committing murder and mayhem. Probably directed by Peter Jackson or Ken Russell or Baz Luhrmann. A completely overblown mega production with an all star cast!

And at the very end, after the credits, a scene with Wayne and Garth sitting in Wayne’s basement watching the film. Excellent! Totally non-bogus.

It should have starred Sacha Baron Cohen, but it does look pretty good.

Sasha Baron Cohen stated that he left the project because the surviving members of Queen made it clear that Freddie would die maybe halfway through the movie. It was about the band, Freddie, and then persevering after his death.

This looks to be much more about Freddie - “the only thing more extraordinary than their music is HIS story” - okay, then.

I see Mike Myers is listed in the cast with no character name listed. Could it be…?

I thought it would be something like this

That guy really, really looks like Freddie.

I am so seeing this movie. Can’t wait for November 2.

I think he is the guy sitting at the desk in the trailer who says 6 minutes is forever. Or so says the Youtube comments.

From the sound of it, it is pretty much all old Queen recordings with Freddie’s voice, remixed with mashed-up grooves for the trailer.

But then again, who could sing for Freddie? (although IIRC, I think SBC was planning to sing at least some of the required vocals).

Hope Rami can carry it - I like his accent and delivery from what is shared.

That’s definitely him.

And they have Brian May down, too. I realize his look begins with the long, curly hair, but they really have it down.

I have mixed feelings about this. I’ve been a huge Queen fan since 1974, and have listened to their first five albums more times than I could count. I actually just listened to all five again last week. Freddie is iconic, and the other three are tremendous musicians. I’m sure I’ll watch the movie; I just hope it’s good.

There are a couple of shots in the trailer of the four of them gathered around the microphone, singing. As a longtime Queen fan, I’ll chalk that up to artistic license, and (probably) the director wanting to depict the four of them as working closely together – John Deacon really wasn’t a singer at all, and wouldn’t have been singing in the studio with Freddie, Brian, and Roger, especially not when recording Bohemian Rhapsody (which featured numerous overdubs of the three of them singing, but no John).

I saw that and thought the same thing. There are lots of images and videos of Freddie, Brian and Roger singing like that, but John readily admitted he couldn’t sing, and he isn’t listed as a singer on credits.

One will occasionally see a video in which the four of them are shown singing together (like at 1:54 in the video for “One Vision”), but those were likely staged for the video, rather than being actual recordings of singing for the song itself. I’ve also seen a few examples of John singing into a microphone on stage (someone made a video compilation of such clips), but I’ve also read that, in those cases, it was for show (for the fans), and his mic wasn’t hooked up.

They are doing a lot of work to hide Bryan Singer’s involvement in this movie.

After he grows the moustache, anyway. Don’t think he has quite the right face shape for the teeth without it.

Get the moustache right and anyone can look like Freddie Mercury.

Yeah, I’ll see it. I’ve been following them since elementary school. Even got to see them live on their last US tour.

But it’s a bit of a disservice to focus on Freddie. Of the four of them he was by far the worst musician. He was good, no doubt, but the others we great. Even Roger was technically a better singer with a higher range.

Still, the front man gets the spotlight. No doubt about that.
