Book of Eli movie - no spoilers

Went to see The Book of Eli. Since I don’t see any threads, I thought I’d give a bit of description for those of you trying to decide if you want to see it.

Briefly, the plot is a post-apocalyptic world where Denzel Washington is a guy who is on a quest of some sort. He’s carrying around a book that he won’t let anyone else see or touch, or even know about. So of course he runs into someone who wants to use him and/or his book for his own purposes.

Yes, this movie is essentially a mainstream Christian promotion. The plot is as the movie trailers hint, a Christian promotion theme about faith in God. It’s not has heavy handed as, say, The Ten Commandments, but it does assume Christianity is real (not that the religion exists, but what it claims is true).

If you want to see a mainstream Hollywood movie where the Christian is unapologetically the good guy, and Faith is promoted as a good thing, then you should like this movie. If you want to see a post-apocalyptic movie where Denzel Washington carves up crowds of people with a big machete, then you should enjoy this movie, if you can accept the notion of God being real. There’s nothing overt as the kind of miracle of God appearing in the sky or Denzel walking on water or anything. There is, however, some scenes where Denzel’s character would be dead in the real world, but somehow manages to get through. Could be typical “good guy” luck in an action flick, but the movie emphasizes his belief that he is protected by God.

It is a well-made movie, and is a decent story - if you can accept the theme.

Although I agree that the “Christianity is good” thing was way heavy handed, there was also a very strong “religion can be used for evil” message as well.

I thought it was well-made, but considerably slower than what I expected, considering the trailers. The story was okay, not great, but I did enjoy the ending.

Linkto last month’s thread on this. (With spoilers)

What I enjoyed most was the directing. Everything was extremly well made and the music added much to it. It could have been a Ridley Scott movie.

True, but I see that as more of an admission of reality. That’s a far cry from “Religion is Evil”.

Khadaji, thanks for the link. Search didn’t find it for me.

Was it just me or did it seem like the post-apocalyptic world in this movie was straight out of Fallout 2? not that I’m complaining, I thought it was pretty cool regardless.
