;Anybody who liked Lonesome Dove may enjoy James Lee Burke’s Heartwood
Set in modern-day Texas, he really gets the country, the people and the language down perfectly and writes a real page turner too. Excellent writing and an interesting, albeit complex, plot.
I saw him speak at a signing once about 10 years ago and he really grabbed me, but I’ve never gotten around to reading anything of his. I bought Heartwood on a vacation when if first came out in paperback but then I got motion sick and couldn’t read anything. Maybe I’ll try to give it another shot soon.
