Books I've been waiting for. List yours!

A Method For Madness by David Gerrold, #5 in the “War against the Cthorr” series. Long anticipated. Might occur one day.

Shadowplay, by Tad Williams. The sequel to Shadowmarch. Due out next year.

A Dance with Dragons, by George R. R. Martin. “A song of Ice and Fire”, of course! Maybe next year?

Metalswarm, by Kevin J. Anderson, #6 in the “Saga of the Seven Suns”, due next year. He’s a hack, but it gives me guilty pleasure to read this.

The Last Dangerous Visions, edited by Harlan Ellison. The most famous book never written. Maybe in some alternate universe it was published, and I can obtain it via L-Space. Ook?

The annoying part is that it has been written. It just hasn’t been published.

The new Matthew Kneale novel (the English Passengers guy). It’s not due until next year sometime. No title yet.

I. Can’t. Wait.

The rest of the Flashman papers. We still haven’t read his American Civil War exploits and his days in the French Foreign Legion, to name two.

T.E.D. Klein – short stories, not a novel, but still . . .

Also, Dan Simmons, who’s been writing thrillers and SF for awhile, gets back to horror in The Terror, due out in January.

koeeoaddi, I’m right behind you!

Feast of Souls, by C.S. Friedman, expected release January 2007. One of my absolute favorite writers, and the first book of a new series - the only bad part is that I’ll probably be waiting 2-3 years apiece for the next couple of books to learn what happens

Rumor has it that Bill Bryson’s next book is to be on the Shakespeare authorship question. Although it’s not really a question at all, I WANT.

The next offerings from George RR Martin, Guy Gavriel Kay, Neal Stephenson, and, yes, Robert Jordan. I am his bitch.

Well, someone’s gotta say it: Harry Potter 7.

Also, it appears Jasper Fforde is coming out with a new Thursday Next novel.

Door Into Starlight by Diane Duane.
The Final Calling by Lawrence Watt-Evans wherein the mystery of the Warlock will be explained.

D&D DMG, Player’s Handbook, and Monster Manual, v. 4.0. Should be out within the next couple years.

Why, back in my day, we had 2nd ed. for twenty damn years without a significant update! Hmf. Damn whipperschnappers with their newfangled books… Well, at least they’re not actually issuing the books as collectible trading cards. Yet. :stuck_out_tongue:

Me, I’m waiting on the translation of Day Watch, by Sergei Lukyanenko. I’m also interested in whatever China Mieville may have in the pipes. Despite my ultimate WTF? reaction to it, KJ Bishop’s The Etched City was easily good enough to keep my interested in her as well.

I’m a historical fiction buff:

The Boleyn Inheritance by Phillipa Gregory.

Genghis: A Novel of Genghis Khan by Conn Iggulden

Royal Harlot: A Novel of the Countess Castlemaine and King Charles II by Susan Holloway Scott

The King’s Nun: A Novel of King Charlemagne by Catherine Monroe

Charity Girl by Michael Lowenthal

Too Great A Lady: The Notorious, Glorious Life of Emma, Lady Hamilton: A Novel
by Amanda Elyot

The First Princess of Wales: A Novel by Karen Harper

The final chapter in Dean Koontz’s Frankenstein. The second book was superflous and did not further the story. But I liked the first book enough that I want to finish it.

The third book in *the Eragon *series.

The other chapters of *The Traveler. *

The Irish (Peoples of Europe) by Michael Herity (co-author of the wonderful Ireland in Prehistory)
The Irish has been available to pre-order since 1999, used to have a release date of Oct 2000 IIRC, now showing Dec 06. I’ve even contacted the publisher and they don’t know when or even if it’ll ever be published. :frowning:

Eleven, actually.

There are several, but I’m still waiting for the last one of Jean Auel’s Earth’s Children series.

I know the last one was bad, but I’ve invested too much time reading this series to not finish it. Even if the last one is awful.

Most of my reading is non-fiction, but one fiction book i’m keen to see is:

Stephen Donaldson, Fatal Revenant, the second book in the Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.

Coming next year.

Currently I’m waiting on the next book in Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel series.

I want to know what happens next with Imriel!

The rest of Flashman, of course.
I want Jerry Pournelle to finish, or allow to be finished, the Jannissaries books.
Book #4 and beyond in Christopher Stasheff’s Starship Troupers series.
