Books signed by the author

My commander is a Stephen Covey disciple. (He even invented some of his own priority codes!) He carries his planner everywhere, etc.

He is retiring in July and we thought it would be cool to get him a Stephen Covey book, signed by Covey, but we can’t find anywhere to get one!

Anyone have any ideas??

I’m not familiar with Steven Covey, is he alive? Could you contact him directly and ask for a signed copy?

Stephen Covey is the “7 Habits” author (among other books). He is also the “Covey” of FranklinCovey planners. We Googled his webpage 2 weeks ago but there was no link to contact him. There was a link to request he speak at an event so we tried that but never got a response.

Have you looked at Ebay? There are 5 signed books up for auction now - obviously not personalized for your boss, but still would be a nice gift.

Google on the terms “Stephen Covey”, “books”, and “signed”. Many websites will come up which offer signed copies of his books.

Contact his publisher, tell them your story, they may well hook you up. In his acknowledgments, ( in the back of his book ) he probably thanks his editor, another good person to contact with your story.

Once you have their names you can probably surf up an email address for them. If could all happen much quicker than you imagine, give it a try.

I don’t know if books are the same as sports memorabilia, but a long time ago I was looking at signed sports jerseys for groomsmen gifts. The estimate at the time was that over 50% of autographed sports memorabilia was fake; and that unless you witnessed the autograph itself; it was probably worthless. Even then, it would only have value to you; because there’s no way to authenticate it to other people.

This is exactly why I get autographs personalized whenever possible. They only mean something to me, and I have no intention of selling them.

Go here, enter the author’s name, check the “Signed Copy” box, and search. I got a number of hits using your parameters. Occasionally the “Signed Copy” will return any inscriptions, whether by the author or not, but it is usually what you want and a good place to start.

Slightly OT. I once read about a man who visited someone and noticed that her bookshelves were filled with first edition books with dedications from the various authors, so when his hostess didn’t notice he took down a bible and wrote “To my dear little Alice from her friend the author”.

There are probably tens of thousands of books signed by Stephen Covey. I even have one somewhere in my basement, which I got at a library convention a few years ago. But you probably don’t want one signed “With best wishes to Giles”.

I have a new never read signed book by Stephen R. Covey. The particular book is the hard copy - Everyday Greatness.

Our company was taking the 7 habits course and there was some mix-up. To help rectify the situation we were sent a few copies of the signed book by Stephen R Covey. It is a pen signature that reads Stephen R. Covey. There is no other inscription, just the name.

Let me know what its worth to you and you can have it.

Don’t hold your breath for an answer or a buy offer - the Commander in question retired *over a year ago *if nothing changed from the OP.

When you’re looking at posts (especially when they come up in google results) make sure to check the date stamp under the poster’s name in the upper left corner so you don’t waste your time with old information.

Did you try abebooks.com ?

Thanks for the offer but the commander is long-retired!

We weren’t able to get anything from Covey but we were able to get a letter from Lou Holtz (I think that’s his name…the football guy?) and he thought that was pretty cool.

Just for anyone out there who wants to do something along the same lines: I’d find out who the author’s agent is (check the acknowledgements pages of his books) and e-mail the agency.
