Hey GO, what did you have on that last hand? I couldn’t really remember what I had, just that I hit a straight on the turn. There was 7c Td Ah on the turn, Kd on the turn, 8d on the river. SO a flush was possible at the river (boy, that woulda sucked

I had A7 offsuit. You were the BB at $200 and I was the small blind at $100. The flop came and you made a tester bet of $1200, which I called and in retrospect probably should have raised. I thought you were just trying to steal the pot, and if I raised I thought you would fold. With my two pair and that fairly innocuous flop I thought I could. But then the K came and the rest is history. You checked on the turn and I was still on the assumption that like last hand you didn’t have anything, not that you were chasing the gutshot straight and didn’t want to risk any chips. Since the pot was already $3600, I bet the pot and when you raised I was pot committed, although still confident, so I called…and lost.
Ah, 2 pair on the flop. I was guessing an A maybe. It’s hard to tell heads up when a normally weak hand is playable. Shoot, I thought my $1200 would be enough to scare you off, not so much as a feeler as a bluff. I wasn’t chasing the gutshot straight, really, just hoping 6X BB would be enough to win the pot. I never expected to see a K on the turn.
It’s that time of the week again: Thursday game night. Just giving the thread a poke to remind everybody.
I might be missing my first-ever game tonight, depending on how much work I am stuck doing in the evening, or how close I am to falling asleep in my chair. Not to say I won’t try to make it to spread around my chips to everybody else as quickly as possible.

Seriously, good games, all. I didn’t have particularly good starting hands, but I hit flops well, and never really had the second best hand… I’ll take that over good starting hands any day.

I have a lamentation of my own. I must sadly report that my recent year of unemployment and shameless mooching (2005) must come to a close, and with a heavy heart I am looking for work. “What the hell do I care,” I hear you asking. Well, there’s a chance that I’ll have to accept work that interferes with the SDMB WPT. Stem the tide of tears for now; nothing is certain. But I know the mere possibility will haunt your dreams.
No, I sucked out bigtime in the heads-up. Twice.
Heads-up is tricky. I had pocket pairs in the big blind 4 times (once was kings), and he folded every time. He also folded at least once when I had 2-6 offsuit. Damn tricky.
