A General wants legal help when the Army wants him out. That’s all I know for now.
Hmm, the return of Word Salad.
Cole slaw!
The Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell thing was badly done. Did they have any basis at all to challenge it (in a state court no less) :dubious: ? And Shirley made a nice speech about gays not being able to get married. Of course the show’s set in Massachusetts! :smack: Did anyone else thing the general and the judge would end up having sex?
I liked the speech made by the Judge. I wish someday I get to say something like that.
You have a guy who risked his life for you for 30 years. Leave him alone people.
Breakdance!
Blah, this show seemed disjointed last night. The arguments were weak, the logic weaker than usual and the Bullfighting storyline just plain useless. Spader does a much better over-the-top soapbox of the week than Bergen does. The storyline between Spader and the skinny new lawyer is already tiresome.
This week wasted both Shatner and Larroquette. Blah.
I hope it gets better.

Presumably the average layperson wouldn’t find that as jarring as someone with a bit of background. FWIW, the seal above the bench in that particular courtroom makes it look sorta like a Federal courtroom–I briefly assumed it was, until they started switching judges in and out of it and doing obviously state-court (criminal) stuff in it.
I do agree that it was an exceptionally preachy episode, and that’s coming from someone who is squarely in the choir. It’s been a weak season overall so far.
The ep did have some moments, though. Shame I’m past con law; I’d have enjoyed using Alan’s word salad analysis if I were called on for Lawrence.
This ep. felt like it wasn’t trying very hard.
Glad you agree, I felt a little hesitant to post honestly about how little I liked this Ep.

Yup. Before he found her sexually irresistible, now he can keep his hands off her but she brings out the word salad in him? I don’t buy it. Back when the word salad first came out it was subtle and funny–Spader getting the mojito thrown on him was sublime. Last night they were just trying too hard, IMO. (ETA: trying too hard re the word salad. Not trying hard enough everywhere else.)
I hadn’t visited the show for a while, but Spader’s recent Emmy win and the addition of Laroquette got me watching again out of curiosity. Sadly, after these 3 eps, I think I’m going to re-abandon it (unless I’m idly channel-surfing and have got nothing else to watch).
Spader is second-to-none in closings, but Larroquette seems underutilized and I have never been a fan of Candice Bergen. The supporting characters are hit & miss–quirky or benign but none of them compelling–but the new addition was quite bad and made me less optimistic that things would turn around.
And Henry Gibson’s judge makes my skin crawl. I don’t know whether they’re shooting for something in the Ray Walston/Picket Fences vein, but his inclusion always smacks of desperation. One Denny Crane is enough, but how many “wacky” characters can this show afford to have?
A shame.
I take it you’ve never seen the judge played by Shelly Berman?! He’s pretty quirky, too. Henry Gibson is just creepy in any role I’ve seen him in. I thought too it might come out (ha!) in the end (Hee!) that the judge and the general were seeing each other.
Totally agree with other posters that so far Laroquette has been underutilized. I loved him when he played the serial killer on “The Practice”!! He needs more roles like that.
We need less Candice Bergen, more Shatner and Laroquette.
No way. The judge is just too asexual for that.
Agreed!
