Alan must defend Denny again, this time for illegal exporting fat out of the country. Hmmmm…Are we talking human body fat liposuctioned for use in making soap, a la Fight Club? Or some other kind of fat for another purpose?
Also, the not-all-that-interesting pregnancy storyline continues.
Very good episode. Any time Denny and Alan get together, it’s an automatic win. Also, Paul apparently actually practices law! Who would’ve thunk?
I’m terribly disappointed Jeffrey Coho is gone, I very much liked him and he was becoming my favorite character (behind Denny of course)
I absolutely agree, drm. What a bummer.
Some great lines from Denny, especially: “You can’t plan sincerity. You have to make it up on the spot.”
What’s going to become of Anya now? She has nowhere to go, no money…
They better keep her away from Denny.
I might be one of the most avid proponents of working to reduce the effects of Global Warming. I am afraid Alan summation was too heavy handed. How did it play to everyone else?
Jim
Hilarious. Because it was so blatant and heavy-handed.
And he knew that doing it that way would sway the jury.
I loved watching the various expressions on Alan’s face as Denny was testifying. Do you think the director tells him what to do or does Spader just know? Damn, he’s good.
How is burning human fat any different than burning fossil fuels, except for the Ewwwww factor and quite possibly the smell? I thought that was a totally silly argument.
It’s renewable. Have another hamburger.
I highly doubt it helps with global warming. The energy used to gather it up, safely secure it and ship it from Boston to Norway and then process it into a fuel is unlikely to to have a net-positive energy gain or environmental gain.
If it was to be used as a fuel, it should be used close to on-sight in a clean energy or steam producing incinerator that also meets requirements for disposing of medical waste.
Sorry for the non-Café spiel, it was an interesting plot line gag, just not good science or business and I do not expect either from most TV shows anyway.
Jim
People who have worked with Spader say that he is extremely meticulous, knows every line spoken by every character, watches everything and everyone. So I have a feeling that he works it out on his own.
And art imitates life, hehehe.

BTW, I really liked the episode, but if I was on the jury, I probably would have convicted poor Denny just based on the Global Warming BS. Of course then he could have had all that prison sex  .
I am assuming you are whooshing here…
They might as well have held up a neon sign saying, “THIS IS CLARENCE’S NEW GIRLFRIEND, SOON TO BE WIFE”.
And look for Mr. Coho to soon be the opposing lawyer in upcoming episodes.
Love this show, but their “plot twists” are usually so obvious that you can see them coming four episodes in advance.
Howard Hessman had a great look, too, just as they cut to commercial. He just looks at Denny and very slightly shakes his head in disbelief. I love his “I’m not sitting in some stupid chair all day” judge character.
I didn’t get that at all. At most, I see her as Paul’s new housekeeper or something to that effect–which can lead into a good storyline about Anya’s immigration status.
Anyone else think that Currie Graham’s D.A. character is thisclose to totally losing it? I can see a plotline where he gets arrested for doing something destructive out of madness–and having to hire Alan and Denny to defend him!
Not real sorry to see Jeffrey go…character was totally meh, IMHO.
Now if we can figure out how to finally get rid of Denise…
