Tonight, a man sues a company that was supposed to “de-gay” him and failed to live up to its promise. Intriguing, as Spock would say.
And somebody in the firm is pregnant, but that’s not as interesting to me as the other storyline.
Agree with whomever said last week that Clarence and Claire have NO chemistry past “friends”, to the point where that scene was almost painful. Otherwise, pretty good episode, if it did rely on the old gimmick judges a little much. Alan was great in this one, and it was great watching the judge get more and more turned on as he did his closing.
Agree with you that the pregnancy storyline isn’t especially interesting.
I loved Alan jumping on the soapbox, then metaphorically staying on it even after he got back on the floor.
I laughed at the beginning when the judge told Denny about his “SSAD” problem and Denny clutched a folder to his chest as if to protect himself from the guy.
It was a fun show. I still don’t know how I feel about the memory-erasing drug. Especially since it’s proplanalol, which is commonly taken for high blood pressure, among other things. I wonder what dosage is needed to swipe memory.
I don’t know how I feel about Shirley’s argument either. I agree that we are the sum total of all our experiences, good and bad, but the implication that bad experiences make good art is a cliche.
I felt sorry for Coho, who apparently was looking forward to being a dad. Anybody think Denise was lying? That she picked Brad? DNA tests don’t come back that fast, do they? And we didn’t see her mark the swabs either. I don’t think she cared if they got mixed up, because she’d made up her mind about who she wanted to be the daddy, for whatever reason.
Do you suppose we’ll see Brad and Denise in court, if Denise decides to abort?
Well, the tiny bit of the promo for next week related to your last question seemed to indicate that it might not be Brad’s after all. Maybe she mixed up the swab tubes after all, as you implied.
Everything on this show happens a lot faster than it would IRL, so in that context, yes, they could have come back very fast.
Can someone explain what they compared the DNA to? There is no baby to get a blood test. There isn’t even a fetus yet. Wouldn’t they have to wait until the baby was born to do a test? At least until it was time to do an Amnio. What was the hurry?
I skipped the promo, or rather the DVR cut it. So they’re in court next week already?
Loach, good question, about what they tested, and Denise’s rush to know who the father is. I think her first decision should have been whether or not to have the baby. I’ll cut her a lot of slack though. I’ve been unmarried and pregnant, and thinking clearly takes time.
I don’t recall if it was actually in court or not; it might have just been a scene that takes place in the law firm. I heard what they were saying but had only glanced at it.
So does that proplanalol stuff actually wipe out memories? I don’t really expect good science from a David Kelly show, but I’d like to know.
I found a site last night indicating that it does, but today I can’t find it. (Hubby takes it for hypertension and his memory is fine.) Maybe the dosage is higher for the memory wipe.
The show was confusing. Does it erase memory or does it affect the emotion that goes with the memory? “I remember but I don’t care”?
Alan’s closing argument was written very well - covered all the bases in the argument, plus a few more.
I agree that Shirley’s closing argument was weak - and if there had been a jury, the verdict would probably have turned out differently. If that girl had been gang-raped and beaten and watched her parents get murdered, would Shirley still have said that the memory of the incident was only going to make the girl stronger? So where do you draw the line Shirley?
And yeah - the pregnancy story is a big yawn.
Even worse, I think it is going to get very annoying. I’ve watched many David Kelly shows. I know he likes to annoy the audience. If he gets you pissed off he has succeeded. I will stay with it and be annoyed until I can’t suspend my disbelief any more. This might push it. Don’t they have any lawyers behind the scenes? I wanted to throw something at the TV when she said she was going to get a restraining order. She is supposed to be a lawyer. You can’t get a restraining order because the father of your child says something that annoys you. There has to be a reason. It seems like next week Brad is going to try and push for parental rights for the unborn child. Isn’t he supposed to be a lawyer? It’s been tried. It doesn’t work. It is ridiculous for a lawyer to even try, especially on MA. It wouldn’t even get in front of a judge.
Ahem. Dave Kelley *is * a lawyer.
Then he should know better or he doesn’t give a damn.
He succeeded with me. I still feel irritated about St. Elsewhere and that was years ago! I figure that clip at the end of his shows where they show the old woman falling over in her chair while saying “You stinker!” was showing her watching the final episode of that show.
I hate to break it to you. David Kelley had nothing to do with St Elsewhere. That was Joshua Brand/John Falsey (went on to do Northern Exposure) and Gwyneth’s daddy Bruce Paltrow. David Kelley did Picket Fences, LA Law, Ally Macbeal, Boston Public and Michelle Pfieffer.
