Boston Legal 5/16

This one is a two-hour deal and I am still taping it. Will come back tomorrow. Until then, carry on without me.

Denny Crane!

Maybe I’m a little dense, but was Denise being fired there? For Marlene?!?

I don’t think so, but it does look as if she may not be back. I could see her quitting and going off and getting married.

She wasn’t being fired so much as having her advancement permanently halted. And not so much in favor of Marlene, as Marlene was getting it anyways, and there was nothing Denise could do about it, despite her efforts.

I definitely think they’re looking towards tossing Denise for next season. Wonder if they’ll add one more to the cast or not. I’m not sure it really matters as long as Denny and Alan are there - along with all the brilliant sort-of-guest appearances they get out of the various DAs and judges. This wasn’t a perfect episode, but it was a very good one, and two hours at once is always a treat.

“So we have acting, directing, cinematography…”
“If you include his humming, he’s doing a score.”

It took me three viewings to watch this. I guess my attention span is 40 minutes.

Good episode. Loved the Looney Tunes chase music as Denise and Marlene were running around the office.

Maybe I’m the wrong gender, but I didn’t find Courtney particularly attractive, so it was hard to buy Alan being hot for her.

Three months in juvie for giving someone a drug that kills them? Seems light to me too, but it appeared Brad’s niece learned her lesson. Local news ran a story the same night about a young man who died at a pharming party. They said kids were mixing prescription drugs with OTC stuff, cough syrup, Sudafed, etc. to get high. Scary, that kids (and adults) seem to think scrips and OTC drugs can’t be lethal.

I’ll miss this show, until fall anyway. It’s the only TV drama I watch, except for HBO’s stuff, and an occasional ER episode.

7 of 9 still has it. Hooyah!

:smack: THAT’S who was playing that Courtney woman!! I could not place that actress the entire show but I knew she looked familiar.

Shatner was absolutely fabulous this whole ep. Loved when he asked Shirley to kiss him…“C’mon Shirley! This is the sweeps episode!!”

I hope they do not write out Denise, her character was just starting to grow on me. But they do seem to have written her into a corner. Does anyone remember her (now ex-)husband from her first episode on the show? Now that I think about it, he looked almost EXACTLY like Brad…so no wonder they hooked up. But I don’t really care for those 2 together, she needs to move on. Thank goodness MJF showed up to save her!!

This is just one of the best written (and performed) shows on TV right now. It takes a lot of risks, so it falls flat sometimes, but it always recovers quickly. My biggest qualm is with some of the excessively heavy-handed courtroom speeches, but I’m willing to forgive this gem almost any flaw. The addition of Parker Posey takes the casting into whole new levels of obviously having been designed with me in mind. Now all it needs is some eyecandy. Brad the Face does not count, and Alan Shore is a whole other kind of hot. Can’t wait for next season.

The past few weeks, I’ve been noticing a lot of lines that seem to refer to the fact that they’re a television show. Has that been going on the whole series?

Robert Wagner was perfect as the West Coast version of Denny Crane.

Neither can Alan and Denny!

“Same night?”
“God, I hope so!”

Golden, absolutely golden!

As far as “eyecandy” goes, it is the lack of it that makes this show stand out for me. You said it yourself: “Alan Shore is a whole other kind of hot.” BL transcends any conventional concept of attractiveness, just as its predecessor, The Practice did. Add so-called “eyecandy”, and you might as well put the show on the WB (or whatever it’s called now).

No, you are right, completely. I would not want it there just for the sake of it being there, and in fact I think Brad and Janet, as I like to think of them, are a bit too blonde and shiny in the interests of that, and I object. I prefer real-looking people playing realistic characters for my eyecandy, no doubt. I just feel like a very naughty boy for even thinking of Mr. Shore that way and desperately need someone I can feel less conflicted about lusting after around, is all.

Shatner is a gem. Shirley: “How did you get into that thing [wetsuit]?”
Denny: “A LOT of Vaseline.”

Good writing, good stories, a great two hours of TV. I finally got to watch it today.

"We got to rewrite that office manual.”

That actress who played Courtney, she used to play on Boston Public, which is supposed to be in the same universe as Boston Legal, no?

I recall the principal from Boston Public censoring Fox News on Boston Legal and the firm from “the Practice” defending people from Boston Public. I thought all three shows were connected, but I guess David E. Kelly does not feel like keeping it that way.

But wouldn’t it be cool to have Alan Shore go up against Bobby Donald?

BL spun off from (the much inferior) “The Practice.” Originally, Alan Shore worked for Bobby Donnell’s firm. And I’d just as soon never see the arrogant, self-righteous Bobby Donnell character again, thankyouverymuch.

Yes, Jeri Ryan was on Boston Public. I also noted that the restaurant in L.A. that they went to in this ep. is the one she owns or co-owns: Ortolan.
