Pending DQs:
Wargamer (1)
Baffle (1, maybe 2)

I don’t know any of these. I came up with a bunch of answers for the third one, but none of them seem to begin with L.

Another IQ: Are you a former Calgary Flames Stanley Cup-winning hockey player known for his bushy red mustache?

I can picture him, but I can’t come up with his name!

So we’re at 20 DQs - do you guys want to make some guesses? I didn’t think this person was too obscure when I picked him, but I’m willing to answer a few more DQs if you want to.

I’ll take a guess.

Are you Leo “The Lip” Durocher, noted tough guy and shortstop on the 1930’s St. Louis Cardinals Gas House Gang teams?

I am not Leo Durocher (I was born after 1940).

:smack:

Was so focused on the not nice/respected part that I forgot that.

Lanny McDonald.

I’ll take a guess: Lynn Swann?

I’m not Lynn Swann.

Rather moot at this point, but the composer of Pagliacci is Ruggiero Leoncavallo.

Stanley Kubrick used the music of György Ligeti in two films - in 2001: A Space Odyssey, the apes discovered tools to the tune of ‘Lux Aeterna’, while Kier Dullea flew into the monolith accompanied by ‘Atmospheres’. In ‘The Shining’, Ligeti’s ‘Lontano’ set the mood for some of Danny’s creepier discoveries at the Overlook Hotel.

Lang Lang is a classical pianist who is making a huge name for himself in the West in the last ten years.
Side Talk - so, we’ve narrowed it down a bit, but not much. ‘L’ could have lived anywhere between 1940 and 1981 but no later than 2000. The sport could have been baseball, football or basketball - when was basketball added to the olympics? And ‘L’ for a first name could be Lou, Larry, Lenny or a few dozen other names. Hmmm. Off to ponder for a while…

Well, we have our twenty DQs, but here are the answers to my last three IQs:

Rooney Mara, who plays Lisbeth Salander in the American remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is of the Rooney family of Pittsburgh, owners of the Steelers.
Logan 5, in Logan’s Run, was a little younger than his girlfriend Jessica 6, who was thus scheduled to die before he was.
LeBron James, former Cavs basketball player, is not too popular in Cleveland anymore.

As to my guess… hmm. Thinking out loud: Larry Byrd is well-regarded by most people, isn’t he?

Yes, he is well regarded, plus there is the minor annoyance that Larry Bird is still alive and is the General Manager of the Indiana Pacers.

If I get another guess, I’ll guess that I am Lyle Alzado, lineman for the Broncos and Raiders, who died of steroid related complications back in the late 80’s or early 90’s, and was on Oakland’s 1983 Super Bowl winners.

EDIT: If I don’t get another guess, then I suggest him to someone who has a guess.

If somebody else gets your guess, then they’ll win, because I am Lyle Alzado. Congratulations, Wargamer!

Well done, Wargamer!!

I hope Alzado wasn’t too obscure. He was an All-pro lineman, but he really became the face of the NFL’s steroid issues in the early 1990s when he was diagnosed with brain cancer and died at just 43. Congrats again, Wargamer!

Yes, even I had heard of ol’ Lyle. Way to go, Wargamer!
