I said he could be alive today, given the first film came out in 1979 and was set “A few years from now…”
So I’d put the first two in the mid to late 1980s. Thunderdome is explicitly set 15 years after Road Warrior, so 2000-2005 or so. The timeline gets all wonky with Fury Road - is it a reboot or a sequel? - and even George Miller says don’t try to make it fit together with the previous films.
