Given the utter disaster that was the Jonah Hex movie, what do you think is the lowest point that Hollywood will attempt to try to make a buck? For this thread, let’s try to limit those who had a minimum of:
a) Their own comic book series or partner-named-team of at least 100 issues (e.g. The Atom, Green Lantern/Green Arrow, Luke Cage/Iron Fist), or
b) Was a member of a long-running team that lasted over 100 issues (e.g. Hawkman, Vision, Scarlet Witch, etc.)
c) Hasn’t already been tried and failed (e.g. Howard the Duck, Dr. Strange, etc.)
I have a couple of contenders:
Bouncing Boy (Legion of Superheroes): His superpower was so dumb, he spontaneously developed a new superpower: super math ability. The logic, apparently, was that he genetically had some sort of super computing ability because he had to control the geometry of his bounces. Close choice here between him and Brainiac 5, actually.
Namor, the Sub Mariner: There has been talk of a film being made, but anything underwater does not translate well into an action film, as proven by Jackie Chan’s underwater shark battle in First Strike, Jar Jar Binks’ city, and the Man from Atlantis TV series.
The Unknown Soldier: I loved the comic, and I loved the idea. However, it seems that Hollywood just can’t make a good war movie. They spend too much money on explosions and realistic equipment, and time and time again ignore the story and the natural drama of war. Of course, Full Metal Jacket is the exception here. Also, whenever you have a character with a deformed face, Hollywood always picks the handsomest actor they can find to have it, ruining the suspension of disbelief.
Metal Men: I just can’t see how Hollywood can avoid screwing this up. I’m sure each one will just be a walking stereotype of a particular race and be little better than a 19th century minstrel show. I’m sure they have the technology to do the powers, but I can’t see them getting beyond 2 dimensional personalities like Transformers 1 and 2.
Doom Patrol: Another of my favorites that I don’t trust Hollywood to make. I would almost guarantee that they will adapt Vol 2 or 3 and ignore the far superior characterization and storylines in Vol 1.
