Amazon recently dropped the price of its smaller (six-inch) Kindle from $359 to $299. If you paid the higher price within the last 30 days, you may be entitled to a refund of the $60 difference. The refund is not automatic; you have to request it. I got in just under the wire, because my Kindle shipped about 28 days before the price decrease. I requested my refund yesterday by e-mail and it was confirmed today.
Here’s how: Sign into your Amazon account, click on “help” then on “contact us” then select the order that includes the Kindle, then click on “e-mail” and send an e-mail to customer service requesting a partial refund.
A post on another message board I saw yesterday speaks of a $40 partial refund. I don’t know why. Amazon gave me the full $60 difference.
Amazon has long had a 30 day price guarantee. If the price of anything you order from Amazon itself (not its merchants) drops within 30 days of shipping, you’re entitled to the difference. It’s not exactly a state secret, but they have never advertised the fact either. It’s a lot more convenient than physically returning the item for a full refund and then buying it again at the lower price, which is what I would be tempted to try if not for the partial refund.
