I distinctly remember the dog being named “stupid” in the TV version.

Casino on USA was one of the more recent entertaining ones. My friends and I will still occasionallhy say “Freak you, you freakin’ mother freaker!”

Some other memorable ones for me:

Caddyshack:
“Hey everybody! We’re all going to get laid!”
turned into
“Hey everybody! We’re all going to take a shower!”

Sixteen Candles:
“No more yankee my wankee!”
became
“No more Yankee Rum drinky!”

Weird Science
“But first, let me…butter your muffin.”
turned into
“But first, let me…better know 'ya, muffin!”

As for this part of the OP:

My vote would be the guy that dubbed Jackie Gleason in the Smokey and the Bandit movies on TV. He doesn’t sound the least bit like him, and he’s also trying (and failing) to alter his voice and add a southern drawl on there to make it match better. Brutal.

Well, quite, but the whole point was that this s/N/Tr thing was done to sanitise the name for the modern audience, which is pretty much the dictionary definition of the phenomenon that is the subject of the thread.

A bit like a horse of the same name in J T Edson Westerns, which is in fact dead white in colour and named on the lucus a non lucendo principle that forms a staple of cowhand humour (and nicknaming generally).
