I don’t bowl, but I been to bowling alleys quite a few times. Something that suprises me is how often the food, burgers etc, is pretty good. Sometimes very good.
Think I’ll head on over to the Albany Bowl in Albany, CA for a cheeseburger. Might be a ballgame (I’m not a fan :smack:) on the tube. Go, uh, Giants.
Peace,
mangeorge.
I haven’t eaten at a bowling alley diner since the '90s. But the place I went (on Lincoln, north of LAX) had pretty good food, and cheap to boot.
We used to take the kids bowling and they served fries and Hoffman’s hot dogs (the kind with the snappy casings). Good eats is right!
I used to cook in a bowling alley way down here in south Georgia-
We had the best burgers, fries, onion rings, and grilled ham and cheese sandwiches in town!
(when I was cooking)
The bowling alley nearest me does a truly fantastic burger. Proper nom nom nom. The beer is shit, but they bring it to your lane, so whatever.
Here in Austin you can get great mexican food every which way you turn. Still, we often go to the bowling alley for our enchiladas of choice.
I love Austin. If it wasn’t so freakin’ hot in the summer I’d retire there. Best music scene anywhere. And enciiladas.
Went to Albany Bowl last night for a cheeseburger.
Not only had they changed to thai, but they were having a private party.
So I stopped at Jack’s to try out a Hot Pastrami. Not too bad, as long as you don’t expect a real Manhattan deli style Hot Pastrami (wet, please).
The bowling alley in my hometown had the best chicken wings. Man those things were good. The place burned down about 15 years ago, so when I go home to visit I can’t get tehir wings anymore.
When my husband was in the Air Force, we’d frequently go to the base bowling alley for burgers and bowling. It was a fairly cheap evening’s entertainment, and for some reason, the burgers were always delicious. I don’t know why the burgers were always so much better than anywhere else. Maybe because they were grilled to order? Most of the alleys also had fantastic hot dogs, they’d split the franks lengthwise and grill them. Absolutely nommy.
The bowling alley in my neck of the woods has great buffalo wings. Amazing. They also have really great chili cheese nachos (or at least did the last time I was there).
I feel like going bowling…
When I was in the Navy I often ate lunch at the bowling alley on the base in Norfolk; they had the best Patty Melts I’ve ever had in my life. Cheap, too!
Odd, I used to go to Albany bowl once or twice a month, and I would always get a cheeseburger there.
Okay, SoCal Dopers -
Go to Gardena Bowl in Gardena. The coffee shop there has AMAZING Japanese-via-Hawaiian food. No, not sushi, but zomg good tempura, teriyaki, Spam musubi, moco loco…
My favorite Hawaiian restaurant of all time.
This sounds like Ohana in Belltown. They have sushi, though.
The meals I usually got at bowling alleys were either steak or Cobb salad. Especially the steak, as it was quite cheap. Cheap meat, but flavourful and tender.
The Sister Bay Bowl has arguably the best lake perch in Door County, and the sirloin steak is good as well
Brian
When I went last Sunday they were having a party. I didn’t want to mess with it, so I left.
Maybe I’ll give it another try tonite.
Howzit, brah. We call it loco moco here in the Berkeley Islands.
I love it, with a burger or with spam. It can be made with other meats I hear.
Shaka
If lake perch is anything like bluegill, I’m on my way.
That is, next year after I retire and if I do get a motorhome.
The Holiday Bowl in Hayward, Ca (before it closed ) used to have the 1970s/Atkins dieter’s special, which was a hamburger patty (sans bun) cottage cheese and side of fruit. Man I loved that!
