I knew it would happen eventually. This story, when CNN finally deigned to put a text version of it for those who do not wish to be bugged by video, had an ad (when I saw it, yours might differ) featuring the infamous screaming woman holding a child as if the baby had just been the victim of a massive terrorist attack.
Doesn’t the juxtaposition of the subject matter and the ad make the supposed ecstasy of the lucky mortgage recipient seem a bit, well, last-days-of-romish? halfway around the world (or from time to time, right here,) people are being slaughtered and you are transported to utter, 1963 Beatle-esque joy at saving 50% on car ins----errrrr, mortgage?
I have no frothing words of rage left for this company. All I have to say is that my dislike for this particular company finally transcended from utter disgust to active unwellness-wishing upon the creators of this intrusive ad campaign.
Even though they are not actively associating themselves with this CNN story, wouldn’t they think it would eventually bump up against a story where it would seem like its mocking actual victims of crying-scream-worthy violence?
Yes… this must be how the other half lives, in a world where annoying bits of web sites aren’t decorously hidden away and probably make noise as well. readies Pay-Pal account to make small “thank you” donation to Mozilla
I do not see any ads and I do not run any specific software. I just have a hosts file and block scripts. Blocks ads, protects from harmful scripts and speeds up computer.
If you’re updating the hosts file manually, consider switching to Privoxy. It does essentially the same thing but more flexibly and with an option to turn off some of the blocking if it’s doing it wrong.
There is also a big moving ad for Proactiv below the article, so apparently he is not aware of interest rates or acne meds. At 13 he should probably be more worried about the acne.
