Boys and girls, look at your fingers (a poll)

Yeah - this was the thing that revealed me to a psychotic trans-gender left-footed lesbian, IIRC.

Ring finger a hair shorter than pointer, both hands. But no shortage of testosterone here. Every study has it’s outliers.

Left hand (male) Ringie longer than Pointie.
Right hand (still male) Ringie same size as Pointie.

OMG look at the dirt underneath those fingernails.
Better stop picking my nose for tonight.

I seem to be quite the manly studwoman.

Both my ring fingers are noticeably shorter than my index fingers, but I made up for it by letting the nail on my ring fingers grow a bit longer. Now will someone please tell my upperlip that we have a shortage of testosterone here and to stop hogging it all for it’s resplendent fuzz?

So I’m a lesbian? Hmmmm, gonna have to stop macking on my mechanic now…

I haven’t had my eyes calibrated lately, but it appears that my ring fingers are ever-so-slightly longer than my indices… But I’m most assuredly of the hetero female category.

Apparently I’m Java’s long-lost twin. Weird.

Nope, bobkitty, you’re part of a group of triplets.

Female, index finger noticably longer than ring finger on both hands.

Lesbian, ring finger noticeably longer on left hand, only slightly longer on right hand.

Male, left ring finger slightly shorter, right ring finger the same.

The entire thing sounds useless on the face of it. Same with the correlations: you can find dozens of them, but they are meaningless.

Make that triplet! My hands fit the exact same description. My husband will be surprised to find out I am a lesbian.

FTR, my pointer fingers curve inward (towards the middle finger) quite a bit. If I place both hands together so that only the sides of the pointer fingers are touching (with my palms parallel to the floor) my fingers only touch from the knuckle to the first joint. After that they form a pronounced “Y” – kind of like a fork in the road. If I were to straighten those fingers (which I don’t think I could without surgery) then the right hand fingers might be the same length but the left hand fingers would still have the ring finger longer than the pointer finger.

Finger Freaks of the world, UNITE!!

Hmm. My ring fingers are both quite a bit longer than my index fingers. Another manly girl here, I guess. I like boys, too.
Nemo, that source is full of it.

Female type person checking in

Left hand - ring finger much longer (but not freakishly so)
Right hand - ring finger slightly longer than pointer.

Ha! My ring and pointer fingers are exactly the same length! Take that, genetics!!

Both hands - ring and pointer fingers the same length. Little finger much shorter than either (just about level with the second joint of the ring finger) if that means anything. Last time I looked I was all male, complete with facial hair.

it’s referred to as 2D:4D ratio and has been looked at in homosexual males more than in females, although the findings aren’t always very robust. the proportionate lengths of the 2nd and 4th digit are believed to be affected by <u>fetal</u> exposure to testosterone (also contentious) and may be part of an argument for a biological and prenatal basis for homosexuality. homosexual males are often academically assumed to have higher levels of testosterone on average than heterosexual males (even though this supposition clashes with the expectations of dominant society).

a student in my department examined biological and behavioural correlates along a butch/femme dichotomy in lesbian relationships. she took measures of 2D:4D in her study and did find that the “butch” lesbians in her sample had more masculine 2D:4D ratios than did the “femme” lesbians, but her sample was too small to have statistical relevance on that matter.

(oh, me personally? right hand: almost indistinguishable, left hand: ring finger considerably longer. i feel like a case study in developmental stability {or lack thereof} now.)

it helps if i remember…
a) to use ubb code rather than html (sorry!) and
b) to point out that i’m a queergirl (think “bisexual,” although it’s a bit more amorphous than that. and i occassionally have problems convincing my boyfriend that i like boys. heh.)

Index and ring finger the same length on both hands.
